MIR Student Assistant (AY 24-25 C91240)

Position Summary:

The Monterey Initiative in Russian Studies (MIRS) is seeking a reliable, mature and professional student with administrative experience to serve as student manager and assistant to the director. The successful candidate will support activities related to the programs of the Monterey Initiative by coordinating advertisements of the events, securing and managing housing assignments for visiting experts, arranging their itineraries, running errands, handling money and purchases, and tracking the budget. In addition to coordinating program activities in Monterey, the GA will communicate closely with the director and may supervise other GAs on specific projects at the director’s request.

Essential Responsibilities:

This position requires the GA to be located in Monterey and to possess strong writing and communication skills. The student manager must be responsible and capable of operating in a dynamic, multilingual environment. Administrative experience required. Approximately 20 hrs./week.

Requirements

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

• Academic and/or work experience related to the field of research, as defined by the supervisor/lead researcher
• Experience with specialized software or datasets, as required by the supervisor

Education/Experience:

• Bachelor and Master’s Degree in related field

Physical Requirements/Environment:

The Monterey institute of International Studies maintains a smoke-free workplace and complies with the Federal Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act and Drug-Free Workplace Act. The position requires moderate-to-heavy physical exertion.

Essential job functions require ability to sit for extended periods of time, walk, bend, climb, push/pull, lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally. Also requires fine dexterity and ability to grasp, i.e. for writing and word processing/data entry.
