CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER (CFO)

The candidate for Chief Financial Officer (CFO) should have strong skills related to written and oral communication, analytics, strategic-planning, and operations. Important traits include a business acumen, ethical conduct, problem-solving, mentoring, and the ability to manage the culture of a finance team driving towards professional development.  Additionally, the CFO candidate should have a presence that instills confidence, discipline, and a spirit of financial rigor into leaders across the firm.  Supporting a team of individuals across our six US office.  Ideally this candidate will be located in out Charlotte, NC, Charleston, SC or Durham, NC office.

The candidate for CFO should have a master's degree in accounting with relevant business experience and 10+ years of progressively responsible experience for a company or division of a corporation including a minimum of 5 years in a management role as a director of finance or accounting, or controller. Preference will be given to candidates with an MBA in Finance and a professional certification such as CPA, CGMA, or CMA designations.  Candidates should possess knowledge of all aspects of GAAP.  

As a key member of the executive leadership team, the CFO will report to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and assume a strategic role in the overall financial management of the company. The CFO will have primary day-to-day responsibility for planning, implementing, managing, and controlling the finances and accounting activities of the company.

Typical duties include:

  • Lead finance & accounting team as an ambassador and representative. Implement caring, competence, consistency, courage, character, and composure on a daily basis, establishing a strong culture and respect among the team.
  • Act as a strategic business partner to the executive leadership team and provide guidance and assistance to company leaders to ensure financial objectives.
  • Identify and implement systems and software to drive efficiency and automation related to financial, accounting operations.
  • Create, implement, track, and report upon yearly financial initiatives and goals that align with the company's plan for growth and diversification.
  • Lead a Finance and Accounting team of highly skilled, trusted, and creative professionals. Oversee the hiring, train, and retaining of accounting and finance staff. Manage and strategize methods used to attain team goals and initiatives.
  • Partner with various other members of senior leadership to assist underperforming studios, mentoring, teaching financial principles, and select approvals.
  • Manage finance & accounting functions within the ERP system (BST).
  • Manage the preparation and communication of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial performance and oversee the annual budget.
  • Manage all banking, credit, vendor, and business relationships in support of strategic objectives including investing excess funds, borrowing for asset purchases, and relationship management.
  • Manage the cash flow planning process, month-end close process, and year-end financial statements.
  • Manage and ensure the proper functioning of systems, databases, and financial software.
  • Manage timeliness and accuracy of financials, local / state / federal tax returns, and external audits.
  • Manage conformity with professional accounting standards and best practices in accordance with GAAP.
