About the role

*Benefits Data Trust (BDT)* seeks a *Staff Accountant* to support our Finance department’s objectives of strategically maximizing revenue and ensuring compliance with accounting and contract rules and regulations. The Staff Accountant will support the Senior Accounting Manager and the Finance team with various tasks. This position performs central accounting activities related to the following functions: accounts payable, accounts receivable, grant and contract accounts, expense allocation and analysis, financial statement preparation, and general accounting. Achievement of these tasks is vital in helping BDT achieve its mission to connect more people to critical public benefits.

The Staff Accountant reports to the Senior Accounting Manager. BDT is a remote-first organization. Employees may work remotely or from BDT’s Philadelphia office.

BDT has adopted a mandatory vaccination and testing policy to safeguard the health of our employees from the hazard of COVID-19. Employees may request an exemption from the policy by providing documentation for medical or religious reasons if needed.

*Main Responsibilities:*

  • Prepares general ledger entries by maintaining records, files, and reconciling accounts
  • Maintains an orderly accounting system and chart of accounts
  • Assists in maintaining department budgets
  • Issues invoices to funders. Monitors the accounts receivable aging report
  • Records cash receipts and makes bank deposits
  • Processes, records, and pays invoices in a timely manner
  • Processes credit card expenses, collects required receipts, and follows up with late submissions
  • Prepares monthly recurring journal entries and leads the month-end close and allocation process
  • Prepares year-end 1099’s for contractors
  • Assists in the preparation of internal financial statements by gathering and analyzing informationfrom the general ledger system
  • Provides clerical and administrative support to management as requested, including preparingmeeting minutes and agendas when needed

*Requirements:*

  • One to three years of relevant experience in the accounting
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • Experience with MS Office Suite with specific proficiency in Excel
  • Expertise with Abila/MIP accounting software is a plus
  • Skilled in learning how to work in new apps, web portals, and other technological tools
  • Adept in dealing with financial and numeric data
  • Superior oral communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with multiple teams
  • Ability to self-direct and proactively identify and address departmental/organizational needs
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment

*The salary range starts at $50,000 and is commensurate with relevant experience.*
