About Texas Alliance for Minorities in Engineering (TAME)

For nearly five decades Texas Alliance for Minorities in Engineering (TAME) has been on a steadfast mission to inspire and prepare the next generation of Texas engineering professionals. Through TAME Clubs and TAME Engineering Competitions, we've gathered thousands of high-achieving students from across the state, challenging them with collaborative design challenges and individual tests. Our strong network of K-12 educators, institutes of higher education, and industry partners helps us share ideas to deliver targeted, relevant, and cutting-edge programming. In this exciting era for STEM education, TAME is in search of an Executive Director to guide our organization into a promising future.

TAME is part of the Cockrell School of Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin), a global leader in technology innovation and engineering education for over a century.  At UT Austin, we say “What starts here changes the world.”  As a member of the university community, you will be part of an organization that is internationally recognized for our academic programs and research. Your work will have meaning and make a difference not only in the lives of our faculty, staff, and students, but also those who are impacted by our first class academic and research programs.

UT Austin, recognized by Forbes as one of America’s Best Large Employers, provides outstanding employee benefits and total rewards packages that include:

  • Competitive health benefits (employee premiums covered at 100%, family premiums at 50%)

  • Voluntary Vision, Dental, Life, and Disability insurance options

  • Generous paid vacation, sick time, and holidays

  • Teachers Retirement System of Texas, a defined benefit retirement plan, with 7.75% employer matching funds

  • Additional Voluntary Retirement Programs: Tax Sheltered Annuity 403(b) and a Deferred Compensation program 457(b)

  • Flexible spending account options for medical and childcare expenses

  • Robust free training access through LinkedIn Learning plus professional conference opportunities

  • Tuition assistance

  • Expansive employee discount program including athletic tickets

  • Free access to UT Austin's libraries and museums with staff ID card

  • Free rides on all UT Shuttle and Austin CapMetro buses with staff ID card

Purpose

Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is entrusted with the critical responsibilities of fundraising, crafting organizational strategy, overseeing day-to-day management and operations, and safeguarding TAME's financial assets. This role entails compliance with board directives, as well as adherence to the requirements of grantors, federal regulations, and state mandates. The Executive Director plays a pivotal role in charting the course for TAME's future success and sustainability.

Responsibilities

  • Advocates for the organization’s mission and the students it serves. Acts as a visionary and a strategic leader who can work effectively with representatives from academia, industry and government as well as K-12 students and teachers.

  • Takes responsibility for achieving the organization’s strategic priorities and ensuring operational execution.  Responsible for achieving measurable outcomes.

  • Inspires students and introduces them to a variety of pathways within the engineering profession.  Recognizes key benefits of student engagement in STEM programs, especially for students belonging to underrepresented groups.  Ensures students have the tools and information they need to make informed decisions about higher education and to pursue their college aspirations.
