We are looking for a Project Officer to join our team to help us drive forward the delivery and implementation of projects and key initiatives within the Welfare & Exchequer service. 

The Project Officer will play a key role within the Welfare & Exchequer service as part of a team of 4 project officers. The Welfare & Exchequer service is a large service with responsibility for Council Tax, Business Rates, Debt Recovery, Adult Social Care financial assessment, Payments to care homes, managing the finances of some vulnerable people, Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reductions, Local Welfare Provision, Welfare Advice, Blue Badges and Free School Meals. You may be expected to work in all of these areas at various times providing project support and delivery.

You will need high emotional intelligence and excellent relationship building skills as this role will include working with external suppliers, colleagues across the Council and within the different Services we support. 

Requirements for this job include:

  • Supporting the day-to-day development and delivery of one or more projects.
  • Responsibility for ensuring the work is planned in a way to effectively achieve the required results with support from managers
  • Supporting collaboration of change projects between Welfare & Exchequer teams and other service areas
  • Ensuring lines of communications with all stakeholders are in place and helping to effectively manage stakeholder relationships to support implementation activities
  • Keeping all information up to date to continually track progress
  • Experience of project work, developing project plans and reports, managing timescales and risks.
  • Can work independently and can manage competing deadlines to deliver projects and initiatives to specification and on time.
  • To show flexibility, adaptability and resilience when faced with quick and frequent change.
  • High level of IT skills including the ability to update and record changes to system parameters and setup. Excellent Excel skills to obtain, format, collate and organise data into useable and understandable formats such as pivot tables.
  • Excellent MS Word skills to develop documents with a high level of accuracy. Ability to learn new IT systems quickly.
  • Attention to detail to carry out precision work and the ability to identify problems and find solutions.
