Sorensen Center Leadership Coach - (part-time)

The BYU Sorensen Center for Moral and Ethical Leadership strives to inspire and equip individuals to lead people as Jesus Christ does by developing leaders with character and capability who edify families, congregations, communities, organizations, and society. This is accomplished through scholarship, formal class instruction, programming, student development, leadership coaching, and campaigns, amongst a variety of other things. The Sorensen Center Leadership Coach has primary responsibility for providing individual and group leadership coaching to students, assisting with development and delivery of existing courses, and assisting a leadership development program. They will also maintain a system that matches students with coaches, tracks their progress within the program, and facilitates feedback. This role is highly collaborative, working with Sorensen Center staff and admin, student leadership coaches, student employees, and student recipients of coaching. This position will provide supervisory support of student leadership coaches and participate in training activities.

What you will be doing in this position

Student Leadership Coaching

  • Provide leadership coaching to students using the C.O.A.C.H Model and the Christ-Centered Leader Model
  • Coach and support students who are actively developing in their leadership journey
  • Coach students using various ethical frameworks to better help them see potential positive outcomes
  • Coach students on best practices when working with stakeholders
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student leadership coaching sessions
  • Refer students to campus partners as needed

Student Development

  • Hire, orient, and train student employees
  • Supervise student leadership coaches
  • Build leadership capacity in student leadership coaches through 1:1’s, meetings, coaching, mentoring, etc.
  • Track and approve time, review wage increases, and hold semester evaluation meetings for student leadership coaches
  • Helps resolve issues, concerns, or questions that may arise within the team of leadership coaches
  • Help and support student leadership coaches with Vision & Mission Fulfillment events and initiatives
  • Facilitate existing leadership courses that will tie together and supplement the cross-curricular leadership experience
  • Identify and incorporate non-traditional leadership values, principles, and resources on campus into the coaching and instruction efforts
  • Provide support for the hiring and training of student leadership coaches
  • Recruit, orient, train, and guide new student employees
  • Supervise administrative assistance provided by student staff

Leadership Coaching Program

  • Implement process for collecting student applications, pairing students with coaches, tracking student participation, and assessing impact of coaching efforts for students
  • Facilitate leadership coach training and practicum opportunities for faculty/staff
  • Provide support and training for leadership coaches
  • Help recruit, organize, and orient Sorensen Center Certified Leadership Coaches
  • Aid the BYU employee leadership coaching program
  • Assist with leading coaching workshops, forums, and presentations for faculty, staff, and students
