The Environmental, Health & Safety Manager is responsible for the development and maintenance of the Health & Safety, Ergonomic and Environmental Programs and Systems for the benefit of all employees, contractors and visitors. The selected individual will be instrumental in the development, communication, and implementation of safety and environmental programs and policies that support our safety-first culture. Responsibilities include creating and delivering necessary safety and environmental training for the division. - Lead, manage, and monitor the division’s Joint Health & Safety Committee, Ergonomics, and recycling programs; respond to safety related issues and concerns raised by employees or management; and create plans to amend violations/hazards.
- Develop and oversee long and short-term health, safety and environmental strategies and objectives to meet future needs and growth opportunities of the division;
- Develop and maintain health, safety and environmental programs, procedures and policies based on new and existing regulation as well as sound safety methodology.
- Participate in ongoing development, communication, and implementation of new programs and policies;
- Develop, review, and manage departmental budgets and expenses for materials, equipment, travel, etc., ensuring conformity to plan;
- Lead, manage, and monitor activities of the division’s Joint Health & Safety Committee, and Magna Corporate Ergonomics program.
- Participate in the management of the division’s Workers Compensation program including: receipt and review of incident reports, assistance in accident investigations, tracking and analysis of injury/incident data, maintenance of OSHA300 log, and participation in case management;
- Manage and maintain the division’s ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, including developing, implementing and maintaining the division’s environmental policies, procedures, and practices, conducting periodic internal audits;
- Manage the division’s regulatory air and water permits, hazardous waste and pollution prevention programs, and prepare and file required environmental reports (i.e., Tier II, Sara Title III, annual waste water report, MAERS, Biennial Hazardous Waste);
- Provide required periodic reporting and updating to Magna Actionlinx database for Magna Corporate Health and Safety, Environmental, and Ergonomic programs, inspections and audits;
- Serve as primary contact with, and liaison to, governmental and regulatory agencies, to Magna Corporate health and Safety and Environmental program managers, and third party ISO 14001 audit firms;
- Oversee divisional safety policies;
- Ensure the division meets regulatory and Magna safety requirements;
- Provide feedback to all levels of Management on safety KOI’s;
- Follow and implement duties including those specified under the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) and the Michigan Occupational Safety & Health Administration (MiOSHA);
- Seek out and correct unsafe acts and hazardous conditions, ensuring all safety and non-safety plant rules and regulations are followed;
- Ensure adherence to established quality, safety and housekeeping standards;
- Review and adhere to all health and safety, environmental, and quality standards, policies and procedures;
- Respond immediately to items brought to attention with respect to hazards, defects, incidents or non-compliance issues;
- Attend Environmental, Health and Safety training;
- Perform all work in compliance with Magna and Magna Engineered Glass Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures as well as all federal, State and local laws;
