The Senior Program Specialist for High Impact Practices exercises significant independence in assignments to contribute to implementation of policies, procedures, and programming related to undergraduate research, community-engaged teaching, and undergraduate fellowships.

This role supports curricular processes related to service-learning and undergraduate research courses and works with faculty to provide advice and support for their facilitation of high-impact learning experiences, including both individual consultations and group programming; and provides routine advising to faculty and academic units ensuring support throughout the educational cycle from entry to graduation.

This role applies unique industry knowledge of high-impact practices pedagogy to support the design, planning, execution, and assessment of an annual calendar of events and programming for faculty, staff, and students across all colleges and regional campuses, working with faculty to provide advice and coordination; and collaborates on the development of programs such as faculty teaching endorsements, faculty recognition awards and peer leader opportunities.

The Senior Program Specialist collaborates with the Program Director to implement medium- and long-term strategic plans through operational plans, assists in goal-setting and execution, and helps to assess performance relative to the plans.

This role manages projects, assignments, and programming for student employees in the Undergraduate Research Apprenticeship Program (URAP) alongside faculty research mentors. The Senior Program Specialist manages all aspects of the URAP experience. This includes: 

  • Hiring and managing students, including orienting students to URAP position requirements and relevant employment policies. Providing ongoing guidance and taking corrective action as necessary. 

  • Managing relationships with faculty research mentors and collaborating units, including facilitating dialogue around sensitive issues that may arise in mentor-mentee relationships. 

  • Executing a curriculum of scholarly and professional development activities, both in-person and via Carmen Canvas. 

  • Gathering and analyzing data for reporting and assessment on the program; utilizing data and industry expertise to make data-informed recommendations about program improvements.  

The Senior Program Specialist implements marketing and communications strategy in collaboration with OAE Marketing & Communications; contributes content to all communications platforms; and represents Ohio State in campus meetings, regional organizations, and national forums around experiential education and high impact practices.

The Senior Program Specialist partners with the Program Manager for Competitive Fellowships to provide additional support for high-level tasks in the Undergraduate Fellowship Office (UFO), such as serving on nominee selection committees and mock interviews. This role also recommends students to UFO opportunities.

This role collaborates and represents the unit with partners across the institution, including but not limited to the Consortium of Summer Undergraduate Research Experiences, University Libraries, Student Financial Aid, Drake Institute for Tea
