About the role

The Position

Genentech, Inc. seeks a Principal Material Science Engineer at its Hillsboro, OR location.

Duties: Within global pharmaceutical and medical diagnostics company, work with business leaders and experts across Roche Pharma development, manufacturing, quality, regulatory, value chain & procurement to establish and execute Materials Science deliverables across the Pharma Technical Cell and Gene Therapy (PTC) portfolio.  Contribute to the development of innovative cell- and gene-based therapies in the company’s CGT product portfolio, which includes a broad array of ATMP (Advanced Therapy Medicinal Product) modalities.  Drive the material qualification and onboarding strategy for CGT programs and ensure cross-functional alignment. Create tools, dashboards and lean methodologies to efficiently execute the GMP material qualification activities for material BOMs in the ITCT portfolio. Support the introduction of new raw materials to advance Individualized and Cell Therapy products in close collaboration and communication with the manufacturing site, specifically Hillsboro Individualized Therapies (HIT).  Provide PTCA inputs to the builds of site digital systems (Aspire, LIMS, MES, etc.) as they impact material onboarding and release into GMP manufacturing. Provide project management leadership to cross-functional material teams and initiatives in alignment with PTC Material Capability framework.

Education and experience required: Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Engineering, Life Sciences, Biochemistry, Genetics or a closely related field and 10 years of experience as a Material Scientist/Engineer, Process Development Scientist/Engineer, MSAT Scientist/Engineer, Production Manager, Biologist or closely related position within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industries.

Alternative education and experience required: Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Engineering, Life Sciences, Biochemistry, Genetics or a closely related field and 12 years of post-baccalaureate and progressive experience as a Material Scientist/Engineer, Process Development Scientist/Engineer, MSAT Scientist/Engineer, Production Manager, Biologist, or closely related position within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industries.

Special Requirements: Employer requires 2 years of experience with each of the following:  

  • Cell & Gene Therapy (CGT) Development, Manufacturing, Regulatory Knowledge 

  • Pharmaceutical GMP manufacturing and Quality Experience 

  • Cell & Gene Therapy (CGT) Pharmaceutical Quality System (PQS) Experience 

  • Material Science understanding and experience 

  • Life Sciences, Engineering and/or Molecular Biology, Genetics Background 

  • cGMP manufacturing experience (clinical and commercial)     

  • Cross-functional leadership and organization skills     

Telecommuting allowed up to 2 days per week

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location for this position of Hillsboro, Oregon is $166,464 to $222,384Actual pay within the range will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
