Job Description:

We approach problems with creativity and innovation. The Richmond, and Charlottsville offices of Schnabel are seeking a Senior Geologist to join our team of multi-disciplinary professionals. We are looking for a motivated candidate able to learn quickly, with a desire to develop both field and analytical skills, and a desire to be part of a strong team.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Project and task management including proposal production, client service, financial tracking, and deadline management
  • Train, mentor, and coordinate junior staff;
  • Lead Health and Safety Plan preparation and project safety;
  • Coordinate and manage surface water, groundwater, and drinking water monitoring and soil sampling and monitoring;
  • Manage contracts and financials for subcontractors including laboratories, drillers, surveyors, supply vendors, etc.;
  • Design and oversight of drilling programs including soil/rock logging and installation of monitoring wells;
  • Perform quality control review field documentation;
  • Interpret special and environmental data such as on isoconcentration and potentiometric surface maps;
  • Perform laboratory data validation and statistical evaluations on analytical data;
  • Prepare technical reports and proposals;
  • Participate in business development and professional organizations.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in either:
    • Environmental Science or Geology
  • 10-20 years of professional experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Regulatory knowledge and experience with RCRA, CWA, and CERCLA
  • Project management experience
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Strong work ethic and a desire for continual self-improvement
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Willingness and ability to perform outdoor field work and travel, as needed; and
  • Ability to lift 60 pounds and be physically able to negotiate construction sites, enter trenches, climb ladders, and work outside.

Desired Skills/Experience:

  • Prior professional work in a related field (i.e. environmental consulting, project management, etc.)
  • Experience using EQuIS and/or Autodesk’s Civil 3D software packages

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record, and credit check
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment screening (including drug screening)

The compensation range for this position is between $88,000 to $124,000. Compensation for this position may vary based on geographic location and other factors. We remain committed to providing competitive and equitable compensation to all employees, regardless of their location.
