ES&O Technical Writer (Bulletin and SOP Focused)

We're excited to welcome an experienced Technical Writer to our Energy Storage and Optimization Team! As a member of our internal and customer technical team for ESS Products and Projects. This role is focused on creating and maintaining detailed documentation for Energy Storage System (ESS) projects. As a Technical Writer, you will be responsible for creating and updating technical documentation, including Technical bulletins and SOPs/method statements for Operations, Maintenance, and lifecycle management teams. You will collaborate with subject matter experts and cross-functional teams to ensure project adherence to specifications and fulfill customer functionality and contract requirements.
Applicants should have a solid understanding of fundamental technical writing skills, including experience with content management systems. The Technical Writer should be familiar with Dita and working in a structured authoring environment. Electrical engineering, project management and construction, service, and maintenance principals, as well as experience with high power electrical systems is highly beneficial. Key Responsibilities:
- Create and update SOPs/method statements for Operations, Maintenance, and lifecycle management teams by collaborating with our subject matter experts.
- Ability to develop and execute work plans for new SOPs, ensuring robust document control and effective planning. Interpret and document electrical and mechanical drawings, submittals, specifications, and operation sequences.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Software Delivery, Product Delivery, Project Management, and Commissioning Managers, to ensure project adherence to specifications.
- Work closely with System and Project Engineers to gather subject matter.
- Provide detailed reviews and recommendations for document revisions, scope adjustments, format changes, and content updates.
- Apply Technical product & solution knowledge
- Clarify project requirements and establish procedures to meet project requirements on documentation.
- Prepare and maintain training packages for product management and project support functions.
- Create Standard operating procedure's for energy storage installations, may be for Life Cycle, Delivery or other departments, as needed.
- Work with documentation control software, create metadata, and create new documents.
- Work with Content management Software to manage and correctly distribute documentation internally and externally according to appliable equipment identification.
- Interact with Subject matter experts and interpret engineering drawings, OEM manuals and other availably resources to create requested Content- ie a Bulletin or Operating procedure.
- Use various types of software to create documents, may be created in word or structured authoring environments depending on the material being created.
- Create illustrations for figures that will need to be used in content creation.
- Create Technical content; Topic based authoring and structured documentation (DITA)
Additional Job Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years of technical writing experience in structured authoring environments.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Power Engineering, or equivalent experience in technical documentation.
- Strong command of document control practices, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and retrievability.
- Proficiency in authoring tools like ArborText and Oxygen, is an asset
- Familiarity with DITA and structured authoring environments.
- Ability to create technical illustrations and visual aids.
- Comprehensive understanding of utility-scale energy storage, renewable energy projects, and products.
- Knowledge of relevant codes and standards (NEC, IBC, IFC, NFPA, UL, IEC).
- Excellent English communication skills, adept at conveying complex engineering, construction, and operational concepts.
- Familiar with lithium ion battery systems
