Job Description:
The Ivy College of Business Graduate Career Services Office at Iowa State University is seeking a Senior Career Services Specialist to join our team on the main campus in Ames, Iowa. This role will focus on enhancing the career readiness of our MBA and specialized graduate business students through innovative programming, student engagement and works directly with the Director of Graduate Business Career Services.
The successful candidate will be a proactive leader with strong written and verbal communication skills. They should be able to exercise sound judgment, take initiative, and collaborate effectively with diverse groups.
The primary responsibilities will include:
- Markets the business graduate programs and students to employers in order to help identify company hiring needs
- Drawing on Industry experience, serve as a career advisor for graduate business students in the Ivy College of Business, including MBA and specialty master’s degree students, administrators, faculty, staff, and alumni on issues and trends related to employment.
- Functions independently as a subject matter expert in student case management, campus recruiting, and professional development.
- Consult and coach individual graduate students and alumni in their internship, career search, and negotiation strategies.
- Assist the Director of Graduate Business Career Services with cultivating, developing, and managing relationships with employers
- Advising current students and alumni from various graduate business majors on their resume, cover letter, internship/job search strategies, negotiations, interviewing best practices, and other related career topics.
- Developing and implementing creative strategies and programs to help MBA and specialized graduate students enhance their networking skills and effectively market their unique competencies in a competitive job market.
- Designing and delivering career courses or workshops that encourage students to actively engage in their career development.
- Collaborating with faculty, employers, and alumni to create career development opportunities and resources tailored to the needs of graduate business students.
- Supervising 1-2 graduate student assistants responsible for supporting program initiatives.
- Managing online platforms for internships, rotational programs, and job search strategies to expand opportunities for students.
- Designing and implementing career-related programming, including fairs, workshops, networking events, onboarding, and special topic seminars that engage both students and employers.
- Provide and assist students with the CPT/OPT process in collaboration with the International Students and Scholars office.
- Collecting, analyzing, and reporting data on internships and employment outcomes, and assisting in communicating this information to relevant stakeholders.
