Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced and innovative Senior Director, AI and Emerging Technologies to join our news organization. This senior role will be responsible for driving the adoption and implementation of AI technologies across the News organization, aligning AI strategies with business objectives, and ensuring the successful integration of AI solutions to enhance news production, distribution, and audience engagement. The Senior Director, AI Applications will report directly to the SVP of Data and Emerging Technologies within the Chief Digital Officer team. The person will work closely with various departments to identify, develop, and implement AI use cases that drive business growth and operational efficiency. This person will be starting as an individual contributor but will change over time once we build this newly developed team. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Alignment and Planning:
    • Collaborate with the SVP of Data and Emerging Technologies and other senior executives to ensure AI initiatives are integrated into the overall business strategy and execution plans.
  • AI Use Case Development and Implementation:
    • Identify and develop AI use cases across different departments such as news production, editorial, marketing, and audience analytics.
    • Drive the implementation of AI technologies to enhance news content quality, personalize user experiences, and optimize operational efficiency.
  • Program Management:
    • Manage and oversee AI projects from inception to deployment, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and meet the agreed-upon deliverables.
    • Foresee and mitigate potential blockers and risks associated with AI project implementations.
  • Collaboration and Stakeholder Management:
    • Work closely with editorial teams, journalists, and other stakeholders to understand their needs and integrate AI solutions that support their work.
    • Collaborate with the technology and IT teams to ensure seamless integration of AI technologies with existing systems.
    • Communicate the value and impact of AI initiatives to various stakeholders, including senior management, editorial staff, and external partners.
  • Performance Tracking and Evaluation:
    • Track the progress and impact of AI initiatives, measuring their business and financial outcomes.
    • Conduct regular evaluations to ensure AI solutions are meeting their intended goals and make necessary adjustments.
  • Compliance and Ethics:
    • Ensure that all AI tools and solutions respect user privacy, function without inherent biases, and comply with legal and industry standards.
    • Foster a culture of ethical AI use within the organization.
  • Talent Management and Development:
    • Collaborate with other AI professionals within the team, providing guidance, support, and opportunities for growth and development.
    • Identify talent gaps and develop strategies to attract, retain, and develop AI talent within the organization.

    • Advanced degree such as Master’s degree or a related field is highly desirable.
