The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a Manager, Environmental Affairs who is responsible for monitoring environmental aspects of University of Nevada, Reno operational activities on all University properties.  This position operates at various levels, including: monitoring of activities specifically permitted by regulatory authorities, reporting to regulators as necessary and addressing violations and corrective actions, performing surveillance of campus environmental health and sustainability efforts to determine operational impacts, supervising Regulated Waste handling and management including dangerous goods shipping, and managing campus inspection activities.

The incumbent provides supervision of the administrative faculty, classified staff, and graduate and undergraduate student workers in the various programs under the incumbent’s oversight. The Manager is responsible for budget planning and projection for the environmental permitting programs such as emissions permits, industrial wastewater permits, underground storage tanks, etc., regulated hazardous, chemical, medical, and universal waste management, and the emergency planning functions such as management of eyewash and AED inspection programs. In addition, the Manager is responsible for appropriate strategic planning in relation to the development of the programs and the annual reporting for the department’s goals and objectives throughout the year. The Manager may serve on university committees such as the sustainability committee, to represent EH&S. The incumbent works with other EH&S staff to develop and deliver training to ensure thorough understanding and compliance with hazardous waste regulations across campus. The Manager meets with the other Managers and the EH&S Director for development and refinement of programs and to clearly define the responsibilities for the departmental administration to identify training requirements and professional development for EH&S staff and students.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree and four (4) years of related professional work experience OR; Master’s Degree and two (2) years of related professional work experience.

Related Experience:   Hazardous material management, environmental compliance, other EH&S regulatory compliance work, related training or other relevant experience; experience as a lead or supervisor or related.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a university academic research or other government research facility

Experience interfacing with regulatory agencies (e.g. EPA)

Possess or obtain within six months of employment Class A/B Underground
