Job Description

This expansion role is for a Senior Network Engineer / Network Architect in the DC/MD/NoVA metro area to perform on-site and project-based consulting with various customers to design, implement, and support Cisco-based networks.  

In this role, you will: 

  • Assess, design, implement, troubleshoot, and document Cisco networks and related systems 

  • Develop both high-level and detailed implementation and test plans for Cisco technologies related to enterprise networks 

  • Provide knowledge transfer and informal training to clients 

 

The successful candidate will be a self-starter who is able to work in a team environment and have the ability to resolve issues independently and as a senior member of a team. Having a positive attitude, excellent customer service skills, and strong clear communication (verbal and written) capabilities is key. 

A typical day in this role would include high-level and detailed design, implementation, operations, troubleshooting and issue resolution.  You will develop documentation as it relates to project requirements, and assist with or develop customer facing presentations of technology solutions.  

Please note that this is not a remote role. but a hybrid role.  Your first client engagement will be with a Baltimore area client and occasional on-site visits will be a requirement so you must be commutable to the Baltimore MD area as needed, or willing to self-relocate.

Qualifications

 

  • Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) or CCIE level expertise in Enterprise Infrastructure (formerly Route/Switch), Security, Data Center or Service Provider (enterprise wireless and collaboration are welcome as well - let's talk) 

  • 10+ years of experience in the design of large enterprise networks 

  • Experienced with Software Defined Networks, specifically DCNM/NDFC and/or VXLAN technologies

  • Experienced with on-prem to cloud migration

  • Good understanding and practical experience with routing protocols (EIGRP, OSFP, and BGP) 

  • Comfortable with Data Center virtualization technologies such as VXLAN and Nexus Data Center Fabric Controller (NDFC).
  • Good understanding and practical experience with switching technologies (Spanning tree, EtherChannel, Port Security, 802.1X, MAB) 

  • Familiarity with Virtual Private Network (VPN) and  next-generation firewall technologies (NGFW)

    • Cisco FirePower preferred, but will also consider Palo Alto, Juniper, Check Point, etc

  • Must be able to work with end-users, communicate clearly, and meet deadlines. 

  • Must be a US Citizen AND be able to pass a drug screen and background investigation 

Desirable: 

  • Experience in the integration of data network and storage system in a data center environment 

  • Experience with Nexus 9K/7K/5K/2K/100V switches 

  • Familiarity with VMware virtual and storage environments 

  • Network programmability for automating network tasks is a plus 

  • Familiarity with Network Security Technologies like ISE, Zero Trust, SDA, Segmentation 

  • Excellent understanding / experience in dealing with SNMP Network Management Servers and configuration of SNMP agents.
