Reporting to the Director, Global Financial Risk Management, the Senior Manager, Financial Risk Management is a key member of the Global Financial Risk Management (“FRM”) team and will be responsible for leading a team in partnering with our Business Units to identify, assess and quantify risk exposures arising from their commercial operations, with the goal of developing risk management solutions to better manage those risks. The Senior Manager will be tasked with continuous improvement in enhancing the risk management processes and framework within which to develop strategy, and identify where to leverage technology to improve efficiency and outcomes. He/she will work closely with the FRM Director, and partner with commercial and manufacturing groups to actively assess, measure and manage commercial risks. The Senior Manager will bring together their operational experience, business knowledge, finance principles and risk analytics to help drive a centralized risk organization that supports intelligent risk management and the identification of value-creating opportunities.

A Day In The Life:

  • You will lead a small team of risk analysts in performing analysis, reporting, middle and back-office functions, including developing performance plans, and giving coaching and performance feedback on a proactive and continuous basis.
  • Lead engagements with internal stakeholders including conducting comprehensive risk assessments to identify potential financial risks to business performance with an objective of developing targeted risk management strategies to manage those risks where applicable and where aligned with the Company’s objectives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate risk management into overall business strategies, performing regular reviews to ensure framework and processes remain relevant to the business environment/needs.
  • Provide thought leadership and expertise on risk assessment across the organization and be a trusted resource for advice and support related to the development and implementation of risk analysis and modeling.
  • Actively partner with and support the FRM and Strategic Planning teams on developing robust risk assessments for major capital investments.
  • Work with FRM leadership to explore the development and potential adoption of advanced modeling, AI and data mining initiatives to quantify financial risks.
  • Together with FRM leadership, build a framework and programs to educate and train the organization on how to recognize, evaluate, quantify and communicate financial risk exposures.
  • Execute hedging strategies to mitigate exposure to commodity price fluctuations within the boundaries of approved strategies.
  • Manage relationships with financial institutions and brokers.
  • Prepare and present regular reports to senior management on the status of financial risks, risk management programs, and key performance indicators.
  • Be a subject matter expert for relevant stakeholders on corporate risk management policies and procedures. 
  • Stay abreast of industry best practices and emerging trends in financial risk management.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in risk management processes, including governance and controls frameworks.

You Bring This Value:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Chemical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or other quantitative discipline.
  • MBA or graduate degree in quantitative discipline desirable.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of ten years or more of work experience in a complex, multi-national organization or financial services firm with significant market presence.  
  • Experience with financial, statistical and risk analysis and modeling, preferably in a financial risk management or corporate finance setting.  
  • Experience with North American olefins, polymers, energy, natural gas liquids, and other commodity markets, whether physical or financial preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of trading life cycle in the context of front, middle and back-office workflow in a trading/hedging environment strongly preferred.
