Senior Research Engineer II (Optical Manufacturing)

The Institute for Digital Molecular Analytics and Science (IDMxS) invites applications for the position of Senior Research Engineer II. 

Key Responsibilities: 

• Run/maintain optomechanical research workshop

• Manufacture optomechanical components

• Contribute to assembling optomechanical systems

• Contribute to design of optomechanical systems in collaboration with optical engineer/PI/researchers/external collaborators

• Develop and maintain G-code library

• Develop probing strategies (using Haas/Renishaw WIPS)

• Operate ultra-precision 5-axis freeform generator (Nanotech 650FG)

• Operate micro-injection moulding machine

• Maintain machines and keep workshop tidy

• Train users when necessary

Job Requirements: 

• Highly experienced in diamond turning / milling / grinding, G/M coding, and CAM are essential

• Being meticulous, orderly, and able to prioritize projects to meet deadlines are all essential characteristics

• Strong knowledge in GD&T, ability to read technical drawings, and ability to communicate feedback are essential

• Ultra-precision machining experience is required

• Injection moulding experience is a plus

• Requires a minimum of 20 years relevant experience in practical optical manufacturing or a Bachelor’s in engineering with 10 years relevant experience in practical optical manufacturing
