Job Description

Economics Research Associate (part-time temporary)

This part-time position will work in the BYU Record Linking Lab (RLL) with a focus on economic research and mentoring. The lab employs 50 undergraduate student research assistants. The ideal candidate will help with projects involving graduate-level econometrics and work directly with the students in the lab to provide support and assistance as problems arise.

What you'll do in this position:

  • Provide research support for several econometrics projects related to economic history
  • Provide mentoring support and guidance to a lab team of 50 undergraduate student research assistants, including coaching students in their overall development in research methods
  • Determine best methods and processes in which to address issues and resolve problems
  • Use machine learning to help link large historical datasets and work with Economics faculty to modify existing code, as needed
  • Create tables and figures and assist with writing academic journal articles

What qualifies you for this role:

Required:

  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
  • Graduate degree in economics or 6+ years of experience conducting research in economic history
  • Familiarity with Stata and Econometrics

Preferred:

  • PhD in economics and 6+ experience conducting research in economic history
  • Familiarity with Python

Starting Wage: $25.00/hour
