POSITION PURPOSE:

Key member of the Department’s Executive Leadership Team, reporting directly to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Provides strategic technology leadership and direction across various information technology functions. Oversees the operations of critical functions such as Infrastructure, Enterprise Applications & Analytics, Customer Support & Experience, and Governance, Strategy & Innovation, which includes the Enterprise Project Management Office (EPMO). Responsible for supervising assigned departmental functions, setting and achieving goals, and enhancing capabilities to support both current and future technology needs. Is instrumental in developing and executing strategic plans to address short-term and long-term objectives. Requires close collaboration with the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and senior leaders to ensure cohesive and integrated technology strategies across departments. Contributes to developing comprehensive plans that drive innovation, efficiency, and excellence in technology services. Oversees the execution of strategic initiatives, monitoring performance, and addresses any challenges that arise, all while supporting the professional development of departmental staff and ensuring that technology services effectively support the organization's mission and objectives.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

  • Extensive knowledge of current and emerging technologies, including advancements in hardware, software, and communications systems;

  • Comprehensive knowledge of federal and state public school laws and the policies and regulations of the Wake County Board of Education as they relate to Wake County Public Schools System’s (WCPSS) technology services and budget;

  • Comprehensive knowledge of current educational trends in information technology and its support in schools throughout the state and nation;

  • Comprehensive knowledge in strategic technology planning, including the development and execution of technology strategies that align with Wake County Public Schools goals;

  • Comprehensive knowledge of infrastructure operations and enterprise applications, covering development, deployment, integration, and maintenance. Skilled in best practices for customer support, service desk operations, and user experience optimization;

  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point; Google Apps;

  • Knowledge in budget planning and management, including the allocation of resources and financial oversight for technology projects and operations;

  • Knowledge in project management methodologies, with experience managing large-scale technology projects, including planning, execution, monitoring, and delivery;

  • Skills in effective leadership, including coaching, evaluation, and team building for a diverse staff;

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly to diverse audiences, including executive leadership and non-technical stakeholders;

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a track record of diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues in infrastructure, applications, and customer support;

  • Skilled in building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including vendors, partners, and executive leadership;

  • Proven ability to lead and manage technology teams across various domains, including infrastructure, applications, and customer support. Skills in staff recruitment, development, performance evaluation, and fostering a collaborative environment;

  • Ability to adapt to rapidly changing technology landscapes and organizational needs, with a flexible approach to strategic planning and problem-solving;

  • Ability to work effectively across departments and with external partners to achieve technology goals, foster innovation, and support organizational success;
