Registration Specialist I - Orthopedics - Saxony

Full Time, Day; Hours: 7:30 am-4:00 pm
Facilitates patient flow from point of entry to destination in a timely, accurate, and professional manner. Obtains specific information to generate an accurate financial and demographic record for patients that will ensure maximum reimbursement and clinical outcomes. Schedules appointments, interviews patients for appropriate medical information, explains charges and policies of the department/hospital, validates and enters charges into appropriate systems, and collects necessary payment. Answers incoming calls and directs patients and visitors appropriately.
Key Daily Responsibilities:
- Opening
- Arrive 20 minutes prior to the first appointment of the day
- Turn on lights in clinic
- Turn on TV in waiting room
- Unlock/Open doors
- Verify all patients are pre-registered for the day
- Check Fax Machine
- Grab iPads if needed for the day
- Pull records and referrals for the day
- Check in virtual patients
- Check In
- Make sure patient location is accurate in Cerner for appointments
- Verify all patients are pre-registered for the day
- Check in patients - scan in insurance/ID and complete paperwork
- Check the work queue 2x daily - Should be cleared by end of the day
- Check front office pool messages - Should be responded to by end of day
- Scan documents (As needed)
- Medical Records (As needed)
- Check bump list for patients
- Mail/New Patient Letters/No Show Letters
- Check Out
- Check out patients - schedule follow up and provide card with appt info
- Check and work Luma report daily - call patients that cancel (with no reschedule ) at least one day in advance of appt
- Check the work queue 2x daily - Should be cleared by end of the day
- Closing
- Check if MAARTI or iPad need plugged in
- Fax and printer to be checked and emptied
- Communicate with clinical staff that all patients have been checked out
- Check waiting room for any trash and dispose
- Yellow superbills have been collected and placed in black tray in back
- Turn off lights
- Lock doors - if applicable
- High School Diploma/GED is required.
- Prefer relevant experience in a health care setting.
- Ability to learn and retain medical coding; ICD-10; CPT coding preferred.
- Requires ability to interpret insurance information; knowledge of clinical practices and medical terminology preferred.
- Basic proficiency in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
