Job Description

Brightspeed has an exciting opportunity for a Principal Network Engineer to join our brand new, state of the art laboratory. As Principal Network Engineer, you will be responsible for technical leadership of the laboratory. The Principal Engineer role focuses on improving testing cycles, identifying inefficiencies, and effectively prioritizing test cases. The Principal Engineer will collaborate with a team of lab Engineers to provide a better service to our customers through thorough validation and optimization of all devices in services in the Brightspeed network. You will partner with vendor partners on improvements, bug fixes, and new products and features.

As Principal Network Engineer you will have the following responsibilities:

• Oversee the technical operation of the laboratory environments.
• Create test plans for new hardware, firmware, and network designs.
• Work with the Laboratory manger on developing key milestones.
• Work closely with the Architecture and Operations staff to identify and verify real-world issues and develop resolutions.
• Work with Architecture on developing the Golden Config for Brightspeed deployments.
• Lead the development of formalized testing methodologies.
• Provide periodic updates on Lab progress.
• Mentor other Engineers to assist with their career development.
• Work with the Lab manager to craft presentations for Senior Management on Lab developments.
• Work closely with vendors on solutions, bug fixes, and new products and firmware releases.
• Oversee proactive and reactive testing and assessments.
• Assist in developing and maintain standards and guidelines to preserve test integrity.
• Continually assess the existing Lab environment and identify opportunities for improving methods and efficiencies.
• Working with the lab manager to assist with keeping the lab running efficiently and producing evidence-based results.

Qualifications

WHAT IT TAKES TO CATCH OUR EYE:

• Bachelor’s degree (B.S.E.E or related major).
• 5+ years of Telecom/Cable/Internet Service Provider industry experience.
• Must be able to collaborate with a diverse team of individuals.
• A broad scope of networking and telecommunications experience.
• Experience in identifying potential design, performance, security, and support problems, including ability to identify technical risks/challenges and develop relevant mitigation strategies.
• Exceptional critical thinking, looking for ways to improve our day-to-day operations.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of team members, managers, and subject matter experts with strong presentation skills.
• Adaptive learner with excellent written & verbal communication and analytical/critical thinking skills
• Solid organizational skills, and ability to cope with deadlines.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Visio, PowerPoint, and Excel.

BONUS POINTS FOR:

• Master’s degree (E.E or related degree preferred).
• Certification from leading network vendors (Cisco, Juniper, Nokia, Calix) preferred.
• Telecommunications Laboratory experience.
• Experience with one or more programing languages.
• Experience with Linux (RHEL, CENTOS) and VMs (ESXI).
• Experience with DC power.
• Experience with Jira/Confluence.
