The Role

The Senior Design Release Engineer (DRE) for GM Energy will work on the latest GM and supplier developed charging, energy management, grid service hardware and software products. Identify and track technical deliverables from GM and supplier organizations. Complete activities as required to qualify and integrate those products into GM product sourcing, quality, and management systems. Have tactical responsibility to support the efficient execution of product releases, to meet challenging program requirements, and to support the Product Integration Manager as required.  The Senior DRE will also have strategic responsibility to collaborate on key initiatives including development of technology, product road maps, and definition of product requirements to succeed in the market. 

What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)

  • Collaborate with fellow GM Energy DREs, GM Energy Product Managers, other GM organizations, and supplier teams to define criteria for product performance, features, cost, and interfaces

  • Define list of technical deliverables required from suppliers necessary to qualify and integrate those systems into GM product management platforms

  • Facilitate integration of GM Energy products into GM product management platforms (EMERGE, PRTS, JIRA, etc.)

  • GM Energy lead for ensuring on time release of technical deliverables

  • Develop and test new charging and energy management products/features

  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting efforts for customer and installer concerns

  • Lead product technical reviews

  • Oversee support DFMEA and Design Reviews

  • Issue Management; PRTS, JIRA, GIMS, Supply Chain Shortages, and Alternate Materials

  • Support warranty analysis

  • Conduct PDTs to manage supplier deliverables and keep GM internal teams aligned

  • Assist with creation of technical details in customer product manuals, Installation manuals, quick install guides, data sheets, troubleshooting guides, etc.

  • Manage hardware and software/firmware releases

  • Manage over the air (OTA) firmware delivery process definition, approval and execution

  • Collaborate with technical specialists to access subject matter expertise that may be required to assess supplier developed products for integration into GM Energy’s offerings

  • Communicate with other GM Energy teams to confirm consistent application of execution, lessons learned, best practices, and adherence to guidelines

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering

  • 5+ years of experience in Design, Development, Validation and release of hardware and/or software products

  • Highly proficient in Release and Issue resolution processes

  • Proven ability to work/collaborate effectively with cross functional teams and suppliers

  • Proven ability to simplify, prioritize, and identify actionable steps when faced with multiple complex issues

  • Time management skills to meet agreed upon customer deliverables, able to manage multiple projects

  • Proficient with requirements definitions

  • Proficient with DFMEA, Quality Chain, and PPAP processes

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Master degree in Engineering or related fields

  • 8+ years of experience in Design, Development, Validation, and release for automotive components.

  • Experience/Expertise in EV Chargers and Home Energy Products (Residential ESS, Solar, MID, Meter Collars, etc.)

  • Highly developed interpersonal and presentation skills

  • Knowledge of GM EV charging architecture implementations and requirements.

  • Proven technical and professional skills in systems engineering area

  • Design for Six Sigma Certification Black Belt

  • Experience launching products on a critical timeline
