Are you interested in Transforming Complex Systems with Innovation? At Collins Aerospace, we’re on a mission to revolutionize how complex systems are designed, analyzed, and optimized. The Integrated Strategic Solutions Engineering (ISSE) team is supporting the development of the Survivable Airborne Operations Center (SAOC) to replace the existing E-4B Nightwatch “doomsday planes”. The development of this critical national security weapon system ensures the Air Force’s nuclear Command, Control, and Communications (NC3) capability is operationally relevant and secure for decades to come.

Position Overview: We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Principal Systems Engineer – Digital Engineer Lead to join our team in Richardson, TX. In this role, you will be at the forefront of implementing cutting-edge techniques to drive top-down systems engineering approaches and leading our digital transformation. Your work will be instrumental in improving collaboration across virtualized ecosystems and enhancing our understanding of complex systems in a digital environment.

This role is located in Richardson Texas and is eligible for relocation .

What YOU will do: 

  • Accelerate digitalization by working closely with key stakeholders and customer to develop the digital strategy, roadmaps, and partner with implementation teams to ensure the successful delivery of the digital platforms.
  • Responsible for the phased development and implementation of the infrastructure and architecture necessary to support automated approaches for system development, design, testing, and integration.
  • This will involve the integration of a connective fabric of development tools, virtualized software ecosystems, test environments, and simulation frameworks.
  • Responsible for defining feedback mechanisms for continuous development and integration analysis and flow back into the design phase. 
  • Coordinate dissemination of tool information across disciplines and sites as well as timely communications to stakeholders and user community.
  • Lead technical proposals and serve as a subject matter expert in non-advocate, internal and customer reviews
  • Recommend investments or changes in technology, resources, procedures, equipment, systems, or other assets to improve the project quality to program management and engineering management.

Qualifications you must have:

  • Experience designing, integrating, and deploying a digital environment used to facilitate collaboration across tools and platforms.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies to design and deploy solutions in cloud-native enterprise applications in private and hybrid cloud models such as AWS, Azure, GCP, OpenShift.
  • Previous professional experience in coordinating across multi-disciplined teams.
  • Experience in system and product design, requirements management, technical risk management, interface definition and control, integration and test, and aircraft level system integration.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to travel domestically (up to 20% of time).

  • Experience with 3DExperience Platform.
  • Experience in technical proposal writing - Make/Buy Decision-making and trade study experience.
  • Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) concepts and tools such as Magic Draw CAMEO, Rhapsody, Enterprise Architect, SysML. 
  • Experience with open system architecture development, including systems, software, and hardware development throughout all phases of a program lifecycle.
  • Experience with Integrated Development Environment (IDE).
  • Experience with DevSecOps and deployment of large scale, hardened application and network systems.
  • Executing product and system level tests to include experience with automation test and simulated environments.
  • Experience with regulatory and certification requirements: TSO, DO-160, DO254, DO178B/C, or ARP4754. 
  • Experience with various communication and networking protocols: MIL-STD-1553B, ARINC 661 standard and bus protocols, and TCP/IP network applications.
