JOB OVERVIEW 

The Director of Utilities and Facilities will oversee the management, maintenance, and continuous improvement of all utilities and facilities systems. This role is critical to ensuring the operational efficiency, compliance, and safety of our production environments, particularly those involving ISO 7 clean rooms, WFI purified water, Clean Dry Air (CDA), Pure Steam Generators (PSG), HVAC, and other specialized systems, within a 13485 Quality Management System. This position reports to the VP of Operations.

Requirements

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 


Leadership and Management: 

  • Direct the activities within the Utilities and Facilities department, including a team of technicians, and support staff. 
  • Partner cross-functionally to develop and implement strategic plans for the department, aligning with company goals and regulatory requirements. 
  • Foster a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement. 

Operational Oversight: 

  • Ensure the reliable operation and maintenance of all utilities and facilities systems, including WFI purified water, CDA, PSG, Chillers, and HVAC systems. 
  • Develop and manage preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and ensure compliance with ISO 13485 standards. 
  • Ensure maintenance activities are safe, clean, and meet quality standards.    
  • Provide day to day support of operational and maintenance issues on utilities across all sites. 
  • Analyze data, and monitor equipment/systems?to identify trends and ensure that all utilities are running within specification and capacity. 

Compliance and Quality: 

  • Ensure all facilities and utilities comply with relevant regulatory standards, including ISO 7 clean room requirements and ISO 13485 Quality Management System. 
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure compliance and identify areas for improvement. 
  • Partner with Quality Assurance and EH&S teams to address any compliance issues. 

Budget and Resource Management: 

  • Establish and manage the department’s budget, ensuring cost-effective use of resources. 
  • Oversee procurement and inventory management for all utilities and facilities-related equipment and supplies. 
  • Negotiate contracts with vendors and service providers. 

Project Management: 

  • Lead, manage, or collaborate on capital projects related to facilities and utilities, from planning through execution and validation. 
  • Oversee the design, installation, and commissioning of new systems and equipment. 
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure projects are completed on time, within scope, and within budget. 

EDUCATION 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field; advanced degree preferred. 

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / EXPERIENCE 

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in facilities and utilities leadership, preferably within the Life Sciences or pharmaceutical industry.  
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 7 clean rooms, WFI purified water systems, CDA, PSG, Chillers, and related systems. 
  • Experience with ISO 13485 Quality Management System.  
  • Experience with building management systems (BMS) & computerized maintenance      management systems (CMMS)Exceptional organizational and analytical skil
