Construction Maintenance Worker I - Golf

Salary: $17.50 hour
General Description and Classification Standards
Performs semi-skilled construction and/or maintenance work in support of a wide variety of public works, street construction and repair, water and wastewater system operation, building maintenance, and other related activities. Operates hand and power tools, light to medium construction equipment, test and measurement equipment, etc. Generally works as a part of a work crew. Work performed is at an experienced level. Work is performed frequently in cooperation with skilled trades employees, experienced equipment operators, technicians, or crew supervisors.
Supervision Received
Works under direct supervision and follows standardized procedures and written instructions to accomplish assigned tasks usually as part of a work crew.

- Completes assigned work orders efficiently and effectively, working with a supervisor to prioritize tasks.
- Performs all duties in a safe, organized manner to ensure the safety of self, crew, and the public while meeting deadlines.
- Works as part of a crew to inspect, maintain, and repair water mains.
- Controls traffic during water main breaks by placing flags and cones.
- Installs water taps and tailpieces on water mains.
- Unstops sewers and house connections; cleans catch basins.
- Repairs cave-ins and locates water service connections and water main lines.
- Marks service connections, water mains, and sewer lines.
- Installs, tests, calibrates, maintains, and repairs wastewater plant and process control equipment, including instrumentation, monitoring equipment, electrical switchgear, and related systems.
- Installs water meters following assigned routes and schedules; advises customers of installation and records required data, including meter numbers and completion time.
- Visits construction sites to verify completion of contractor work when required.
- Inspects utility trucks to ensure proper tools and equipment are available and in working order; requests approval for needed materials.
- Checks pumping stations and equipment; records daily plant water flow and performs daily chemical checks.
- Prepares samples for laboratory analysis.
- Maintains a clean, safe, and organized work area; properly stores tools, collects scrap and leftover materials, and clears debris from sidewalks.

Selects from multiple standardized procedures, written instructions and methods to accomplish assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of: department policies and procedures; of methods, products, tools and equipment used in public works maintenance and construction work; of basic mathematical principles. Skill in: operating a variety of light to heavy power equipment; in maintenance of tools and equipment. Ability to: understand and apply pertinent policies, procedures and regulations; to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted during the course of work; to perform maintenance activities involving skills in the functional fields to which assigned; to maintain records and make simple reports; to work beyond normal working hours, as required.
Minimum Qualifications – Education and Experience
High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
1 year of related experience in public works, street construction and repair, water and wastewater system operation, building maintenance, or other related experience.
Preferred Qualifications – Education and Experience
High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) and 2 years' of related experience in public works, street construction and repair, water and wastewater system operation, building maintenance, or other relevant experience.
Licensures and Certifications
CDL License Class A and/or Class B, Water Distribution Licenses, Class III Operator License, Electrical License, and/or Journeyman License, as appropriate are desirable.
