Description

Major Role:

Consistent with the mission, vision and values of Lifeline of Ohio, the Hospital-Based Clinical Responder provides on-site response in collaboration with Family services, Hospital Development, Organ Recovery, and partner hospital clinical teams. The Hospital Based Clinical Responder will be responsible for a strategic hospital in the Lifeline of Ohio designated service area and will be expected to spend their dedicated shift onsite at their assigned hospital.

Responsibilities:


1. Effectively respond to all vented notifications received by designated hospital.

  • Learn and apply clinical aspects of suitability evaluation to better evaluate suitability of potential organ donors
  • As content matter experts, assist hospital partners through the initial stages of the organ donor evaluation process

2. Conduct comprehensive suitability evaluations of potential organ donor referrals in conjunction with the Organ Triage Coordinator and Administrator on Call.

  • Evaluate donor candidate eligibility based on applicable standards and regulations.
  • Evaluate past and current medical conditions and check for positive and negative trends in labs as leading indicators to evaluate whether a referral represents a realistic opportunity for donation.

3. Conduct Daily Check-Ins with appropriate members of hospital care team on all standing notifications at designated hospital.

  • Re-evaluate candidates daily to confirm suitability for donation until authorization.
  • Updates donor chart in iTransplant daily from the time that the initial notification is made until authorization is acquired, or potential donor is deemed no longer suitable for organ donation.

4. Transition suitable donors to the Family Services team to obtain authorization for donation.

  • Perform warm handoff between the hospital care team and the family services coordinator to help facilitate the effective request process.

5. Build and maintain strong relationships with designated hospital staff to ensure all opportunities for organ, tissue, and eye donation are captured.


6. Maintain the “Hospital specific donation report” as tool that ensures all unit leadership is aware of Lifelines on-site presence.


7. Attend unit specific staffing huddles and monthly meetings to stay informed of all hospital specific trends.


Requirements


Education and Experience:

  • Education: High school diploma required. Current Allied Health certification preferred (e.g. Medical or Nursing)
  • Assistant, PCA, Phlebotomy, ST, EMT, Technician, LPN, etc). Associate degree in a clinical field of expertise, or equivalent combination of certification and experience preferred
  • Two years of emergency or critical care experience in a healthcare setting or hospital preferred
  • Effective knowledge of anatomy and clinical care principles
