The International Student & Scholar Services Department (ISSS) is looking to hire TWO ISSS Orientation Leaders for the Spring 2025 Orientation.
ISSS is the home for advising services for international degree seeking (F-1) and exchange students and scholars (J-1). Our team is highly motivated to support international students and scholars in achieving their academic and professional goals. We seek to do our work in a professional, fun and culturally competent way.
ISSS provides information, referrals and advising in the following areas: F and J immigration regulations, International Student Orientation, International Student Mentor Program, cultural adjustment and intercultural competence development, obtaining health insurance, opening a bank account, tax filing, and counseling.
Graduate and undergraduate students are eligible to apply. And we strongly encourage international students that live on campus to submit their application.

Pay Rate: $15.57 per hour
Job Description
This is a short-term position (100 hours TOTAL for both Orientation Leaders). Student Orientation Leader will assist with planning and implementation of international student orientation. This means any applicant should expect much in-person interaction with students, staff and faculty. It is therefore a huge plus if you reside ON close to Augsburg’s campus.
International students eligible to work on campus are encouraged to apply.
Duties include:
- organizing orientation packets
- creating and taking care of the WhatsApp group,
- replying to emails
- supporting students with their arrival on campus
- accompanying students to shop for basic food and personal items
- providing new students with a campus tour
- managing the forms and creating new organized tables when needed
- assisting with the session on intercultural communication during the Orientation
- supporting advisor with any student needs that come up
- ordering bedding, organizing international student closet
- other orientation-related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
Applicants must:
- be enrolled at Augsburg University
- be international students with eligibility to work on campus, or US students who have work-study eligibility as part of their financial aid award.
Ideal Applicants will have:
- Strong interpersonal skills
- intercultural competence
- informal counseling skills
- ability to manage lots of details while carrying out program-related tasks
- ability to maintain confidentiality
- capability to work independently and in a team environment.
Minimum one-year experience in a cross-cultural setting. Demonstrated intercultural competence and familiarity with the types of issues confronted by newly arriving international students. Demonstrated planning skills with attention to detail.
