Getty Images works with over 496,000 contributors and image partners around the globe who add 8-10 million new assets each quarter to the 495 million assetscontained in our catalogue. Making Getty Images one of the world’s largest commercial archives.   There are 2 fundamental questions the Getty Images Search & Ranking Team are working to solve:  "If an image is worth a thousand words, wouldn’t it be nice if we didn’t have to type a thousand words to find it?"  And:  "What do we do when an image is our search query, instead of text entered into a field"  To find a solution to these questions, we are building a highly efficient, Artificially Intelligent (AI) Image search engine that pushes the boundaries of Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Visual Search Machine Learning (ML).  The Search Team at Getty Images is responsible for building something that has never been built before, on a scale that will challenge the best of the best Engineers.    If you would like to be considered for an integral role on a high visibility team that has the deepest of impact on our industry and our customers, and you have expertise in some of the key skills and talents listed below, then we are very interested in speaking with you.  

Skills you possess:

• Experience building and operating complex distributed systems at scale
• Empathy for users and their business goals
• Proven experience building and leading software engineering teams with a focus on inclusion and diversity

• Orientation towards long-term impact as the yardstick for prioritization, but able to strike the right balance between short-term goals and longer-term vision

What you’ll need to succeed:

• Strong skills in C#, Java, and other object-oriented languages
• Working knowledge of search algorithms and their practical applications.
• Hands-on experience with AWS Technologies (Such as Dynamo, ECS, EC2, S3)
• Experience with containers and container schedulers (Docker, ECS)

Nice to have:

• Familiarity with the following: Solr / Lucene; Spark; Kafka
• Knowledge or experience with FAISS, vector search, or NLP
• Understanding and utilization of scripting languages such as Bash, Python and Ruby
• Experience with CI/CD and Gitlab
• Experience with monitoring tools such as Splunk, Grafana, and Prometheus

Mental and Physical Demands:

• Frequent communication with others to exchange information. 
• Frequent sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing; Time of each will vary. 
• Constant operation of computer and frequent usage of other office machinery, including (but not limited to) calculator, copy machine, computer printer, etc. 
• Frequent repetition of motions and gestures that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers. (Required) 

Due to the current conditions and impact of Covid-19, this key position will initially work from home, until such a time we open our offices. At the time of the local office opening, employees and managers will partner to determine the work site location in line with our Flexible working policy.
