ICF is seeking motivated Sample Custodian (Environmental Laboratory Emphasis) to join our team of environmental professionals (including Environmental Scientists, Chemists, Biologists, Geologists, etc.) to support an EPA contract, the Environmental Services Assistance Team (ESAT), across the country. The team performs soil, water, air, waste and tissue sample analysis for chemical contaminants primarily supporting Superfund site assessment, remediation, and emergency response but also for compliance under the Safe Drinking Water Act and the Clean Water Act. The team supports EPA’s ambient air monitoring programs through sampling air for Pb and particulates and auditing ambient air analyzers for ozone, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, and nitrous oxide under the Clean Air Act.

We are seeking candidates for the various federal government laboratories across the US to include Denver, CO; Houston, TX; Kansas City, KS; Athens, GA; Chelmsford, MA; Edison, NJ; Corvallis, OR; Seattle, WA; Ft. Meade, MD; Chicago, IL.

Job Description

ICF is looking for Sample Custodians who will be responsible for performing all the different aspects of shipping, receiving, storing, distributing and logging samples. Duties include opening coolers and inspecting contents of shipments, checking documentation to ensure contents of cooler are accurately listed, distributing sample containers to appropriate storage locations, entering the information into a laboratory information management system (LIMS) and organizing spent samples for disposal. The position requires strict adherence to standard operating procedures, health and safety policies and practices, and quality control requirements.  Working in this environment requires the use of safety equipment including, but not limited to, eye safety glasses, gloves, and other personal protective equipment. The Sample Custodian ensures that work area is clean and organized including storing, restocking supplies, and shelving samples as necessary. Duties may also include assisting with sample preparation and laboratory analysis. The successful candidate must be able to work both independently and as member of a team of chemists and technicians. 

Basic Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED

• Ability to move around, stand for long periods of time, sit for long periods of time, tolerate exposure to cool temperatures, and squat and lift containers

• Able to lift and carry 40 pounds

• Valid driver’s license, good driving record, and able to drive long distances (in company-provided vehicle)

• US citizenship is required per federal contract requirements.

• Must be able to pass an EPA background check to obtain access to US federal property

What We’d Like You to Have

• One (1) year of laboratory experience preferred

• Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills

• Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines

• Must be computer literate and experienced in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel). Proficient in the Windows environment and use of Internet E-mail.

• Experience working at Federal facilities
