Description
Candidate will be responsible for leading a two or three person SUE crew on a daily basis, performing designation and location of underground utilities. Candidate must be proficient in designating underground utilities with electromagnetic location equipment and in the use of ground penetrating radar (GPR). Experience with using non-destructive air-vacuum excavation equipment and related system components such as a jackhammer, tamper, concrete saw and hand tools for locating subsurface utilities is also required.Your Primary Responsibilities will include
- Facilitate/attend safety meetings and maintain safe operating procedures.
- Demonstrated experience in operation of vacuum excavation equipment to accurately Locate, identify and report underground utilities in accordance with industry guidelines.
- Coordinate on behalf of company and interact professionally with third parties in the field such as property owners, clients, and utility owner representatives.
- Supervise crew activities as assigned and trains other crew members.
- Demonstrated experience in operation and application of appropriate geophysical equipment to accurately Designate complex underground utility layouts in accordance with industry guidelines.
- Operate multi-frequency pipe and cable locators, ground penetrating radar, sondes, rodders, and other geophysical equipment with proficiency.
- Remove and replace manhole lids and covers, with assistance, document pipe sizes, alignments, depths etc.
- Operate non-destructive vacuum excavation equipment, hand tools, pneumatic tools, compressors, jack hammers, concrete saws, and other associated tools as needed.
- Utilize One Call System to collect, comprehend, and interpret utility records, design plans and as-built information.
- Identify and interpret control point records and locate in the field.
- Ensure completion of accurate daily sketches, reports, photos, and maintenance of project documentation.
- Assist with inventory, scheduling, and other overlapping administrative functions.
- Execute basic mathematics functions, measurements, and conversions.
- Perform minor maintenance and up-keep of vehicle, work sites, and equipment.
- Direct and implement appropriate Temporary Traffic Control (TTC/MOT).
- Prioritize, coordinate, and execute SUE activities as well as select Survey operations.
- Work outdoors in various conditions.
- Walk for extended periods, traverse various terrain while utilizing surface geophysical detection and surveying equipment, typically 30lbs or less.
- Pick up and carry equipment, tools or supplies weighing up to 75 lbs. for short distances and assist others to do the same. This includes the loading and unloading of such items into and out of vehicles, storage areas, etc.
- Availability to travel, when necessary, to provide expertise on projects with other DRMP Offices for up to two weeks at a time.
What you'll need
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record, per DRMP insurance requirements. CDL is preferred, but not required.
- Pass pre-employment drug screen.
- Ability to communicate effectively, has technical aptitude, capable of working in team environment or independently.
- 6+ years of SUE experience, or related fields, such as utility locating or geophysics
- Ability to obtain OSHA certifications, DOT medical card, or other industry certifications.
- Understanding of ASCE/UESI/CI Standards, Common Ground Alliance’s Best Practices and Florida State Statute 556
- Ability to receive verbal and written instructions with a professional demeanor
- Understanding of APWA color codes
- Experience in supervising others is preferred
- Previous experience with AutoCAD/Microstation preferred, but not required
- Ability to work standard operating hours consistently (night work and/or overtime may be necessary).
- Land Surveying experience a plus.
