About the role:
The Samsara AI team builds end-to-end machine learning and computer vision solutions for our customers as well as core ML infrastructure for Samsara. As a Manager II of Machine Learning you will build and lead teams that apply computer vision, sensor fusion, and machine learning to recognize and surface relevant events to our customers. You will also be responsible for developing, deploying, maintaining, and improving AI solutions on devices and in the cloud - working closely with full-stack, firmware, and platform teams.
This role can be office-based or fully remote in the US and Canada.
In this role, you will:
- Lead teams of engineers building ML infrastructure to scale our hybrid cloud-edge AI products
- Help drive long-term planning and establish scalable processes for execution
- Actively contribute to building the roadmap for AI at Samsara
- Stay connected to industry and academic research and adopt novel technology that suits Samsara’s needs.
- Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices
- Hire, develop and lead an inclusive, engaged, and high-performing team
Minimum requirements for the role:
- BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or other technical degree
- 5+ years relevant technical experience with ML infrastructure
- 4+ years relevant software engineering work experience
- 2+ years of experience leading software and science teams including senior ICs
- Experience building and deploying large-scale machine learning systems with feedback loops for continuous improvement
- Comfortable leading infrastructure development in collaboration with scientists and researchers
An ideal candidate also has:
- MS or PhD in Computer Science or other technical degree
- Experience with state-of-art training frameworks, inference frameworks, and build tooling
- Experience building, deploying, and optimizing ML infrastructure that spans edge devices and the cloud
- Proven track record for innovation and delivering value to customers
- Demonstrated ability to build cross-functional consensus and drive cross-team collaboration
