The senior construction specialist functions as part of the Engineering Department to coordinate construction and maintenance work. They work closely with the maintenance teams, operations teams, and capital project managers to assure safe and efficient execution of those activities in various areas of the plant.The Construction Specialist coordinates all capital project construction, expense project construction, and contracted maintenance activities for that area to assure proper coordination, planning, scheduling, quality of work, and safe execution of the contracted work.The Construction Specialist will be responsible for coordination of plant shutdowns, ensuring that all activities are completed on schedule.
WHAT YOU WILL ACHIEVE
Works closely with maintenance team and operations to target maintainability issues, lower maintenance costs, and implement improvements that require contracted services.
Coordinates with customers and contracted service providers in developing services requirements, job scopes, layouts and preparing schedules.
Coordinates bringing specialty companies on-site for maintenance teams to resolve equipment issues.
Coordinate area shutdowns with operations, maintenance, utilities, and trades contractors.
Participate and enforce site contractor safety program. This includes site safety inspections, contractor qualification reviews, safe work permit review/approval, completing safety checklist, confirming contractor compliance with safe work practices, and adherence to the sites safety and security policies.
Conduct project progress meetings as required and appropriate for the size and complexity of the work being executed during both the planning and execution phase of the work.
Provide day-to-day field oversite and coordination of contracted construction work for a variety of disciplines and trades.
Creates and manages construction site logistics plans including creating site construction announcements.
Support/complete cost estimating and scope development for capital and expense projects.
Interface with engineering, operations, trades, and contracted A/E, to support design reviews and constructability reviews on capital and expense projects.
Provide guidance and support to capital project managers in creating construction bid packages.
Ensure quality control with respect to the services provided by the contractors through work inspections or by verifying contractor quality assurance programs.
Review contractor’s completed work to assure compliance with the contract documents, site standards, and applicable codes and standards.
Review and approve requests for payment by contractors.
Review contractor RFI’s and submittals prior to transmitting to appropriate responsible party.
Review contractor change requests for accuracy, completeness, and validity.
Coordinate with trades contractors the documentation of field changes from design documents. Assure changes are red line marked on the drawings and are turned back to the A/E for drawing updates.
HERE IS WHAT YOU NEED (Minimum Requirements)
2+ years related experience (i.e. Maintenance, Project Engineering, Plant Engineering, Facilities Management or Construction Management) with a BA/BS degree.
0+ years related experience (i.e. Maintenance, Project Engineering, Plant Engineering, Facilities Management or Construction Management) with a master's degree.
6+ years related experience (i.e. Maintenance, Project Engineering, Plant Engineering, Facilities Management or Construction Management) with an Associate’s degree.
8+ years related experience (i.e. Maintenance, Project Engineering, Plant Engineering, Facilities Management or Construction Management) with a high school diploma (or equivalent).
Language Skills: Excellent English reading, writing, speaking and communication skills required.
Strong Computer Skills: Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point & Project.
Strong organizational skills required.
BONUS POINTS IF YOU HAVE (Preferred Requirements)
Certified Construction Manager (CCM) and/or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
OSHA 30-hour training.
Knowledge of pharmaceutical manufacturing and basic GMP requirements.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Candidates must not be allergic to Penicillin.
This position requires on-site presence at the Rochester manufacturing site.
