STATUS:                                     Non-exempt/ Regular Full Time

COMPENSATION:                    $20.60( HOURLY)

DIRECT SUPERVISOR:            Corps Officers

 

GENERAL STATEMENT:

The Salvation Army is a branch of the Christian Church and the ultimate goal of all programs is spiritual regeneration of all people.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. A possessor of a positive Christian experience who is willing and able to share it.
  2. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age.
  3. Applicants must be in compliance with child protection policies of The Salvation Army.
  4. An understanding and acceptance of The Salvation Army’s mission, philosophy, program, and practices.
  5. A graduate from a college or university with a major in Christian Education, or education. On the job experience may be substituted for educational requirements.
  6. Ability to plan, direct and evaluate the work of subordinates.
  7. Ability to work independently or with other staff members.
  8. Ability to plan, implement and evaluate Christian Education programs that meet the needs of youth in the community including, but not limited to, Salvation Army programming.
  9. Ability to keep calm in demanding situations.
  10. Multi-media, first aid card, and current CPR certification.
  11. Applicants must have experience working with other volunteers and youth workers in either a team or supervisory role.
  12. Applicants must have a valid Washington State Driver’s license and ability to pass TSA MVR check and in-house driving course.
  13. Applicants from other denominations must agree to both the doctrines and practices of The Salvation Army and demonstrate an ability to relate to both youth and adults. It would be preferred that such applicants attend a Salvation Army for 6 months before taking on the role of a paid youth worker.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
ADMINISTRATION
  1. Keep attendance and program statistics. Prepare monthly reports.
  2. Handle public relations for the Christian Education Department, under the guidance of the Corps Officer and Program Manager.
  3. Communicate with service groups, other Salvation Army programs, community centers, schools, churches, etc. on programs.
  4. Deal with suggestions, incidents, accidents, and complaints in a professional manner.
  5. Develop quarterly brochure and information sheets for programs to be advertised in the community center’s calendar information.
  6. Work with Gym Supervisor in updating bulletins boards in lobby area on a regular basis for program information.
  7. Set up and work with Corps Officer and/or Program Manager in handling the transportation needs of the Christian Education programs to include Corps Youth Group/Corps Youth Program, Summer Camp, and Sunday School pickups and drop offs.
  8. Handle Christian Education program correspondence.
  9. Keep Corps Officer and/or Program Manager informed of activities, equipment and facility’s needs. Purchase and order Christian Education supplies and equipment following proper procedure.
  10. Discuss with Corps Officer all plans for outings for youth programs and receive approval before announcing.
  11. Must effectively demonstrate abilities in program planning and management.
  12. Must effectively demonstrate excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  13. Must effectively demonstrate the ability to work with a wide age range of young people (children to young adults).
  14. Must effectively demonstrate the ability to lead a singing company, group or other vocal groups (preferred).
  15. Must effectively demonstrate the ability to play piano, guitar, or lead instrument for corps activities (preferred).
  16. Complete quarterly youth reports from DHQ youth department.
