Arts and Sciences | MusicThe School of Music at The Ohio State University seeks to hire a 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor of Violin starting August 15, 2026.
The successful candidate will:
- Demonstrate evidence of successful teaching in higher education and a representative record of professional performance experience.
- Play a crucial role in enriching the student experience of cello studies at Ohio State through providing teaching and mentorship to students as they pursue a diverse range of academic and professional goals.
- Demonstrate the ability to incorporate AI in applied music, in particular its applicability to pedagogical and performance-based instruction supporting Ohio State’s initiative to “ensure that every Ohio State student, beginning with the class of 2029, will graduate being AI fluent in their field of study, and fluent in the application of AI in that field.”
Performance Objectives
- Participate in School of Music activities, attracting and retaining violin students.
- Participate in faculty governance, including leadership roles within the Performance/String Area.
- Maintain a professional profile as a violinist through performances, recordings, publication, presentation, scholarship, and other research/creative activity.
- Engage and lead activity in professional organizations in the field.
- Mentor undergraduate and graduate violin majors.
- Advise graduate students in the String Area.
- Teach courses in applied violin, small ensembles, string pedagogy and string literature.
- Demonstrate the ability to incorporate AI in applied music, in particular its applicability to pedagogical and performance-based instruction.
Education and Experience Requirements
Required: Master of Music required; Doctor of Musical Arts preferred. We are seeking candidates who, in addition to maintaining an active performance career, will demonstrate potential for a strong creative and scholarly profile, a commitment to engagement with relevant pedagogical and performance organizations within the string instrument community on the national level, and a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The School of Music seeks a collaborative colleague with the ability to contribute to the intellectual and cultural life of the String Area, the School of Music, and the University.
