DPT Director of Clinical Education Description:


South College invites applications for the position of Director of Clinical Education for the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at the South College Nashville campus. We are searching for a team-oriented individual with excellent communication and organization skills. This individual demonstrates competence in clinical education, teaching, and curriculum development.  


Under the direction of the Program Director, the Director of Clinical Education is responsible for planning, coordination, facilitation, administration, and monitoring of the clinical education component of the physical therapy program. 


The DCE holds a faculty (academic or clinical) appointment and has administrative, academic, service, and scholarship responsibilities consistent with the mission and philosophy of the academic program. In addition, the DCE primary responsibilities are to plan, coordinate, facilitate, administer, and monitor activities on behalf of the academic program and in coordination with academic and clinical faculty. 


Responsibilities:


  • Collaborate with faculty and clinical partners to develop a high-quality DPT program that addresses the physical therapy needs of the population – infant to elderly in both rural and urban settings.
  • Developing, monitoring, and refining the clinical education component of the curriculum
  • Facilitating quality learning experiences for students during clinical education
  • Evaluating students' performance, in cooperation with other faculty, to determine their ability to integrate didactic and clinical learning experiences and to progress within the curriculum
  • Educating students, clinical and academic faculty about clinical education
  • Selecting clinical learning environments that demonstrate characteristics of sound patient/client management, ethical and professional behavior, and currency with physical therapy practice
  • Maximizing available resources for the clinical education program
  • Providing documented records and assessment of the clinical education component (includes clinical education sites, clinical educators, etc.)
  • Actively engaging core faculty clinical education planning, implementation, and assessment
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Program Director

This position is hybrid with the requirement to be on campus in Nashville, TN during lab immersion sessions. While relocation to Nashville is encouraged, it is not required for this position.

Requirements


Education:

  • Earned terminal academic doctorate in a discipline appropriate for teaching responsibilities 

OR 

  • Doctor of Physical Therapy degree (or tDPT) with ABPTS specialization or other specialty experience in a discipline appropriate for teaching responsibilities

Experience: 

  • Understanding of higher education and contemporary clinical practice appropriate for leadership in physical therapy clinical education
  • Knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal, and practice issues affecting clinical education, students, and the profession of physical therapy
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in Tennessee or the state of residence
  • Currently active in clinical practice or extensive previous clinical experience, especially as applicable to clinical education
  • Active in professional activities at local, state, and/or national levels
  • Experience consistent with South College System for Faculty Rank
