About the role

Do you want to fight for equality by tackling the twin crises of climate and inequality at their roots, together with colleagues, our partner organizations, and activists in more than 70 countries? To change the systems behind it, once and for all!

Oxfam Novib stands behind the people who stand up for equality. Together, we fight for a world where everyone has equal opportunities, regardless of gender, ethnicity or skin color. A world where everyone feels safe; where income gaps are shrinking instead of growing, where climate change is tackled in a firmer and more honest way.

Equality is the common thread in our work and projects, both internally and externally. We recognize that our team of colleagues can become even more diverse, and that only with a diverse team can we gain a broad perspective on the world. Therefore, we want to encourage everyone who hesitates to apply, no matter the reason. Our aim is to create an environment where everyone not only feels welcome, but where diversity is embraced and celebrated. Let's strive together to build a team that offers a rich variety of perspectives, enabling us to achieve an inclusive and inspiring work environment.

Job description

At the Climate Justice team, we develop international and Dutch influencing and campaigning strategies on climate justice together with Oxfams, allies, and partners. And we support the most vulnerable, and the movements, partners and activists that represent them, to cope with the climate crisis and voice their demands.

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced influencing advisor. You support the co-creation of influencing strategies together with climate justice movements, partners, and activists, especially in the Global South. This role works across the Oxfam confederation and with Oxfam national-level colleagues to co-develop advocacy and influencing strategies and donor proposals which link local-to-global and global-to-local.

You proactively contribute to the implementation of the Oxfam Climate Influencing Strategy.  You proactively work on the implementation of multi-country programmes and grants and help develop future grants. You have a good understanding of local and national climate justice issues on just transition, climate finance and climate resilience and know how this can be embedded into national-level policy processes (such as NDCs, just energy transition and national climate budgets) from a participatory, locally led perspective. You are creative and thrive through participating in a diverse and active international movement for climate justice.

  • Initiate and work together with the different stakeholders in Oxfam on the development of new projects and programs that could be funded by back donors and ensure quality delivery of agreed outcomes with existing back donors.
  • Ensure synergies between the different programs and projects implemented through Oxfam’s climate justice strategy. Lead on developing and identifying local-to-global strategies and contribute to cross-country learning. Lead and/or coordinate when needed Oxfam (project) teams.
  • Keep up to date with the latest developments in his/her relevant area of expertise and participate in relevant networks; based on this drive innovation in terms of new approaches and ways of working while building this ‘bottom-up’ together with Oxfam teams, country offices, partners and allies.
  • Contribute to the project cycle (planning and reporting) of the Oxfam Novib projects which support the Climate Justice team. Support learning and knowledge development, mentoring, and development of knowledge materials together with stakeholders related to the projects.

Who are we looking for?

Are you an experienced influencer (at least 6 to 8 years of relevant experience) passionate about making a real difference in the world? Do you have a keen interest in supporting climate advocates in their struggle for climate justice and know how to do this? Do you have relevant experience in leading and supporting the development of impactful advocacy and influencing strategies from the local to the global level. Do you have experience in working with and supporting movements and alliances and have a vision of how this can help strengthen the climate justice movement? Look no further!
