Overview:  

The Analysis and Design Integration Group within the US ITER Project is seeking Senior Designer(s) to support multiple WBS scopes including CS Modules, CS Assembly, Pellet Injector, Port Integration, Vacuum and the ICH/ECH heating systems.   As a Senior Designer, responsibilities will include preparing preliminary and final designs, assembly and detail drawings for the various systems.  In addition, the senior designer reviews and approves drawings to assure conformance to drafting standards, tolerance requirements, and completeness.  The senior designer will also review the work of other drafting personnel and provide a mentor role for junior-level designers.  Further, the senior designer assures that work of others meets design criteria, interfaces, and schedule constraints.  The senior designer will report to the Design Integration Team Lead for assignments. 

 

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates, identifies, and specifies design interfaces between mechanical sub systems with other engineering disciplines.
  • Works with senior engineers and scientists across multiple disciplines to develop complex engineering designs and drawing packages
  • Uses 2D & 3D CAD software packages (preference for CATIA V5 and/or AVEVA) to create digital assets for projects
  • Mentor junior designers and technicians and provide oversight for their tasks
  • Prepares bills of materials, material take-offs, and assembly procedures for complex equipment.
  • Employs conceptual thinking and knowledge of engineering principles to solve engineering problems and prepare complex designs.
  • Develops hardware concepts, performs engineering calculations required to design components and selects components and materials. Makes layouts and/or sketches that require creativity.
  • Prepares conceptual and final designs and layouts from functional requirements for review and approval of engineers.
  • Prepares criteria, work scope, cost estimates, and schedules for design jobs.
  • Prepares electronic models of mechanical hardware, which may be utilized by other designers, engineers, and analysts for importing into other graphics and analysis software.
  • Responsible for CAD data organization and configuration management.

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Associate of Science Degree in a technical field
  • 10+ years of experience designing electro-mechanical equipment
  • Design experience among multiple disciplines:  Mechanical, Electrical, and Structural
  • Use 2D and 3D design software at the expert level
  • Ability to work independently with minimum oversight and complete non-routine assignment.
  • Demonstrated ability to interface with and manipulate models and files between difference CAD systems.
  • Excel at working on multiple projects and able to adapt to changing priorities
  • Exceptional teamwork skills, computer skills, organizational skills, and self-motivated

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience designing electro-mechanical equipment
  • Familiarity with activities and equipment in a nuclear operating environment (gloveboxes, shielded casks, hot cells, remote operations, pressure vessels, nuclear ventilation, etc.)
  • Hands on work experience in metal fabrication (machining, welding, forming, assembly, etc.)
  • Experience using ENOVIA or equivalent CAD data management software
  • Demonstrated ability in using Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing and ANSI Y14.5 standards.
  • Experience with magnet design and cryogenic temperature service desirable.
  • Experience using AVEVA E3D to create P&ID’s and other process flow diagrams.
