About the Role:

  • Cruise is looking for a Staff Technical Program Manager to lead highly technical, executive level cross-functional programs within Cruise for our driverless vehicles! 
  • In this role, you will partner with engineering teams critical to Cruise’s mission
  • The ideal candidate is someone that can align multiple groups and teams towards unified goals and drive progress towards meeting our company objectives
  • You will lead intra and inter-department cross-functional dependencies and relationships
  • This is a highly cross-functional role where you will be working with partners from across AV Tech including Directors and VPs

What you’ll be doing:

Planning

  • Partner with leaders across Product Management, Program Management, and Engineering functions to document and supervise program requirements, and turn these into engineering work plans with clear cross-team dependencies
  • Drive the formulation and review of department roadmaps and objectives on a quarterly and ongoing cadence
  • Work with Engineering leaders to ensure teams address a balanced assignment of critical initiatives and proactive engineering excellence investments and ensure teams don't become overburdened

Execution

  • Ensure smooth execution of cross dependent programs and continuously improve execution over time
  • Ensure consistent delivery of critical projects that meet the companies objectives, identifying and removing organizational barriers to execution
  • Promote quality communication across departments to effectively complete and report progress, risks, and wins to an executive audience
  • Lead and improve planning and execution processes at the intersection of multiple departments
  • Responsible for instrumenting monitoring to measure group efficiency and effectiveness
  • Establish confidence from partner teams to continuously minimize distractions or conflicts and push groups to increase their output

Technical

  • ​​Be the point of contact for high visibility multi-functional workstreams by owning communication of team, initiative, and objective statuses to all partners, including senior management and executives
  • Build systems to coordinate the proactive identification, tracking, and resolution of risks across multiple engineering organizations
  • Define and maintain a work breakdown structure and balance agile project management methodologies with overarching company program schedules
  • Coordinate with product and engineering management to measure progress towards our goals to ensure schedules are met and wins are celebrated
  • Use technical judgment in working with large, cross engineering teams to track dependencies and risks effectively
  • Ability to apply technical software or hardware development knowledge to collaborate closely with engineers and/or scientists to transform prototypes into shippable features

What you must have:

  • Bachelors, Masters, or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or similar technical field
  • 7+ years of technical industry experience, including as a Technical Program Manager or equivalent technical leader
  • Proficient with Agile methodologies and JIRA based program management tools and standard methodologies
  • Experience improving and delivering reliable software through continuous integration, automated testing and code reviews
  • Track record
