The Department of Chemistry at Colorado School of Mines (Mines) invites applications for the position of Assistant Teaching Professor starting in August 2024.Located in Golden, CO, Mines is a public institution dedicated to education and research in engineering and the applied sciences. The Department of Chemistry offers B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees and conducts a research program emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to solving real world problems. Responsibilities: This academic position will have pedagogical responsibility for the entry level chemistry courses with a primary focus to implement, oversee, manage and ensure the quality of laboratory instruction for the chemistry core courses.
The primary responsibilities would include:
- Evaluation and updating of laboratory curriculum for general chemistry.
- work with other faculty on the creation and modification of laboratory experiments, activities, and simulations to maintain a high quality laboratory program.
- Teach one to two general chemistry lecture sections per year in a team-teaching environment.
- Prepare and lead TA training workshops.
- Prepare and direct weekly TA and Lab Professor meetings and practice sessions.
- Manage and assist all TAs regarding laboratory techniques, classroom management, interpersonal issues, and grading.
- Set standards for laboratory report grading, assist TAs with grading issues, and manage all student grades using the University learning management system.
- Implement and enforce safety policies and procedures in the laboratory.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Candidates must hold a minimum of a Master’s degree in Chemistry, or closely-related STEM discipline.
- The successful applicant must be knowledgeable in college level chemistry topics;
- Comfortable with basic chemistry lab equipment;
- Applicants must be proficient with word processing and spreadsheet software (e.g. Word, Excel), preferably with some experience with learning management systems (e.g. Canvas) and presentation software (e.g. Powerpoint).

Annual Rate and Benefits
Assistant Professor salary range is $70,000 - $80,000 per year
