POSITION SUMMARY (Basic purpose or primary function of job)

We empower people to live their best lives by fostering connections and better health outcomes for individuals and the whole arthritis community. 

The Arthritis Foundation seeks a Social Media Intern for the Summer and Fall of 2024. This position will support the Marketing Channels team by assisting the Sr. Manager by managing the official Arthritis Foundation social media accounts on LinkedIn, X, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, and other networks. This is a temporary opportunity, averaging 20 hours a week, and will provide the opportunity to gain a depth and breadth of experience in marketing communications and social media. The duration of the internship will be six months and will end by December 2024[SS1] .

Candidates must have experience using various forms of social media for communications and marketing-based activities. In addition to contributing to branded social media efforts and assisting with marketing campaigns, the intern will have the opportunity to create content and support the day-to-day management of the official Arthritis Foundation social media accounts.


Learning Objectives and Goals:

CAREER DEVELOPMENT:  Through meaningful learning opportunities and access to leadership, student interns will gain a working knowledge of nonprofit management, community and volunteer engagement, and fundraising. In addition, students will be able to apply their writing, research, and data skills to develop the Arthritis Foundation’s programs further. 

SKILL DEVELOPMENT:  Interns will learn project, time management, and communication skills, specifically how to articulate the organization’s mission effectively. Interns will be able to acquire and further develop their communication skills, time management, attention to detail, adaptability, and customer service skills for professional development. They will also learn how to set individual goals that align with the organization’s broader goals and then work toward them. Interns will be active participants in assessing the results of their activities throughout each project.

PERSONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT:  Working at the Arthritis Foundation will allow students to demonstrate decision-making and problem-solving skills and professionalism by holding themselves accountable and will be given opportunities for professional development to prepare them for future careers.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (Principal responsibilities or job duties)

  1. Assist with the design and execution of social media campaigns.
  2. Create weekly and monthly editorial calendars to promote organization-wide initiatives on various social media channels.
  3. Create and schedule content such as web articles, infographics, and videos on owned social media accounts.
  4. Track social media engagement to identify high-performing ideas and campaigns for scalability.
  5. Perform social media marketing research.
  6. Monitor and respond to comments and DMs on social media platforms.
  7. Brainstorm and research ideas for original content, including staying on top of social media trends.
  8. Create compelling graphics to share across social channels.
  9. Write social media captions that speak to the organization’s target audience and are aligned with the brand voice.
  10. Help create and edit short form videos.
  11. Develop new strategies for increasing engagement.
  12. Ensure the brand message is consistent.
  13. Assist local market teams with localized social channels, as needed.
  14. Assist with building a library of social content for use on localized social channels.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
