Job Summary
The Sr. Director, Sales Compensation will serve as subject matter expert on sales compensation governance and administration. In this role, you will oversee and drive sales compensation plan governance and design structures & processes across the enterprise, while ensuring alignment with Sales, Finance and HR leadership.
This leader will initially play a key role in standing up the enterprise sales compensation governance & administration structures and processes. This position will subsequently be responsible for driving delivery of the established processes, and providing oversight and strategic input to sales compensation design throughout the annual performance assessment, metric development, and other design phases. In this role, you will also manage sales comp administration functions, overseeing the work of the team who is dedicated to day-to-day management and calculation of sales compensation payments.
This is a highly visible role to executive leadership. This role is critical to the success of sales compensation design and delivery at The Standard and must bring innovative approaches, polished communication skills, and a passion for building and stabilizing a team of sales compensation professionals. The ability to influence effectively and collaborate seamlessly are strengths of this individual.
Key Responsibilities:
Governance and Administration Development and Execution:
- Develop and implement governance frameworks and administrative processes for sales compensation. Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations. Continuously improve governance and administration practices to enhance efficiency, scalability and effectiveness.
Plan Design and Administration:
- Drive the design and build of the sales compensation plans annually - including administration of the internal sales compensation plans – and initiate plan approvals with adjacent key stakeholders. Manage monthly sales compensation reporting, adherence to budgets, and alignment to sales performance.
Team Management:
- Lead and manage the sales compensation administration team. Ensure accurate and timely administration of sales compensation plans. Provide coaching, mentoring, and development opportunities for team members.
Skills and Background You’ll Need
- EDUCATION: A Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Finance, or a related field is required.
- EXPERIENCE: A minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience in HR compensation and/or sales operations or finance roles, with at least 4 years in a leadership position. Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams. A CCP Designation is preferred but not required.
- Strong understanding and proven experience with sales compensation design, governance and administration principles as well as sales compensation costs, drivers and financial implications. Knowledge of sales compensation administration practices for various types of plans/plan metrics.
- A strategic thinker, highly organized, with an ability to apply creative problem-solving and innovative approaches to difficult situations.
- Exceptional communication skills - ability to articulate technical, financial, and operating issues/findings/recommendations at every level of the organization from team members to senior executives.
- Experience collaborating with sales leadership, finance, senior executives and other key stakeholders, with an ability to influence, drive decision/resolution, and ensure alignment.
