Machine Learning Engineer

Mission Summary

As a Machine Learning Engineer, you’ll develop ML-based metrics for evaluating an autonomous vehicle system offline at large scale. Current projects include developing smart agents, ML vehicle models for realistic simulation, and ML models for detecting discomfort events. The team works closely with Perception, Prediction, Planning and Control teams.  If you are passionate about bringing real autonomous driving to the world through engineering excellence, we are interested in hearing from you!

The Motional Pittsburgh office is located in the new Hazelwood Green development at 4734 Second Avenue, a culmination of the city��s goal of restoring an economic driver to the neighborhood in a thoughtful, inclusive, and sustainable way. With views along the Monongahela river, the Pittsburgh office is in the heart of this new state of the art development.

This position can support remote work within the United States, with occasional travel.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Collaborate with team members to deliver and improve ML models for better and faster offline evaluation at large scale
• Apply practical and rigorous engineering methods
• Clarify success criteria, identify dependencies, and resolve roadblocks through collaboration and communication

What We’re Looking For

• Fluency in Python, including standard scientific computing libraries
• Bachelor's Degree preferred in Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field, or equivalent professional experience
• Machine Learning development experience 
• Strong communication and presentation skills - can explain complicated topics and ideas in a clear and concise manner

Bonus Points (not required)

• Masters in Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field; new PhD graduates are encouraged to apply
• Experience in any of the following areas: perception, motion planning, simulation, or autonomous vehicle behavior evaluation

Salary Range$113,900—$170,700 USD
