CURRENT VACANCY INFORMATION

Maine Correctional Center in Windham, ME, is seeking a Restorative Justice Coordinator. This position is critical to ensuring that all residents experience a fair, equitable, and responsive environment that fosters a positive and successful return to their communities. The successful candidate will work to oversee, implement, monitor, and ensure the effectiveness of programs by establishing partnerships and conversations between the facility, residents, communities, and victims, conducting and researching to develop and implement new systems to support the Maine Model of Corrections restorative justice practices encouraging a successful transition back to the community.

 JOB DESCRIPTION

This is paraprofessional support work involving interaction, care, custody, security, treatment, rehabilitation, and restorative justice reintegration planning of justice involved adults referred to the Department of Corrections. Coordinates, implements, and tracks rehabilitative, protective, treatment, and behavioral health programs and services to ensure timely and appropriate delivery of restorative services. Leads, facilitates, and participates in individual and group circle process and activities to document observations, and guide and promote restorative philosophy and principles. Mentors and acts as a role model of appropriate behavior, attitude, ethics, and morals to encourage positive social change and promote a normative culture.. Determines and initiates actions or interventions to resolve work problems, address resource needs, and coordinate activities.  Work is performed under limited supervision. 

Knowledge and Abilities 

• Knowledge of development, behavior, and methods of providing habilitative, rehabilitative, and socialization practices.
• Knowledge of agency policies and standard operating procedures. Knowledge of evidence-based principles and practices.
• Knowledge of restorative justice theory, practice, and their application in providing rehabilitative programs.
• Knowledge of community resources and support services.
• Knowledge of methods and techniques of establishing work standards and work simplification. Knowledge of on-the-job training methods, techniques, and practices.
• Ability to apply seasoned interpersonal skills and facilitate group dynamics.
• Ability to develop and execute complex program and strategic goals in a dynamic environment. Ability to guide and lead individuals in group settings and subprogram activities.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Ability to write clearly and effectively.
• Ability to establish, coordinate, and maintain effective working relationships.
• Ability to draft or complete standardized documents, forms, and reports.
• Ability to develop and implement training.
• Ability to analyze facts and information, reach logical conclusions, and make sound determinations.
• Ability to oversee and coordinate program activities and functions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:   

Education, training, and/or experience in a behavioral science, human services, social science, criminal justice area, or a closely related field – OR – directly related experience working with people in a treatment and/or correctional setting.
