The Assistant Restaurant Manager supports the Restaurant Manager in the day-to-day operation of dining services within the community, including resident dining areas, café/bistro operations, private dining, and special events. This position provides hands-on leadership and direction to dining team members and helps ensure that residents and guests consistently receive professional, attentive, and high-quality service.
The Assistant Restaurant Manager works under the direction of the Restaurant Manager and carries out established dining standards, procedures, schedules, and operational priorities. This position does not independently establish departmental policy, staffing levels, compensation, budgets, or other significant operational decisions. When the Restaurant Manager is unavailable, matters requiring management approval or decisions outside the Assistant Restaurant Manager's established authority must be referred to the Executive Director.
Responsibilities:
- Provide a high level of customer service and promote a professional, welcoming dining atmosphere for residents and guests.
- Support the Restaurant Manager in overseeing daily front-of-house dining operations during assigned shifts.
- Provide day-to-day direction, coaching, training, and support to dining team members in accordance with established standards and procedures.
- Assist with onboarding and training new dining team members to ensure Experience Senior Living dining and service standards are consistently met.
- Provide observations and feedback to the Restaurant Manager regarding team member performance, training needs, attendance, conduct, and other performance-related matters.
- Assist with implementing established dining team schedules and help address routine coverage needs within established staffing parameters.
- Conduct or assist with pre-meal stand-up meetings for dining and kitchen team members.
- Monitor dining areas throughout meal periods to ensure appropriate service levels, cleanliness, presentation, and resident satisfaction.
- Assist dining team members during periods of high service demand as needed.
- Help ensure compliance with established food safety, sanitation, dining, and operational standards.
- Support the use of POS systems, eMenu Choice, and other systems, software, and computer programs utilized in dining operations.
- Assist with the coordination and execution of community special events, sales and marketing events, guest visits, private parties, and family events.
- Develop positive relationships with residents and guests and respond promptly and professionally to questions, concerns, and service requests.
- Assist new residents with their transition into the community by helping establish a positive dining experience and identifying individual preferences and service needs.
- Address routine resident, guest, and team member concerns within the scope of the position and promptly escalate significant or unresolved concerns to the Restaurant Manager.
- Promote teamwork and cooperation among dining, culinary, and other community team members.
- Help maintain appropriate dining room supplies, equipment, and service materials and communicate operational needs to the Restaurant Manager.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Decision-Making Authority and Escalation
The Assistant Restaurant Manager is responsible for providing operational leadership during assigned shifts within the policies, procedures, schedules, staffing plans, and direction established by the Restaurant Manager and community leadership.
The Assistant Restaurant Manager may make routine, day-to-day decisions necessary to maintain safe and effective dining service within established guidelines.
The Assistant Restaurant Manager does not have independent authority to make significant decisions regarding:
- Hiring or termination of team members.
- Compensation, wage rates, or changes in employment status.
- Formal disciplinary action.
- Creation or modification of departmental policies.
- Material changes to staffing levels or established schedules.
- Departmental budgets or significant expenditures.
- Vendor agreements or contractual commitments.
- Significant resident, employee, safety, compliance, or operational matters requiring management approval.
