Senior Project Designer

Description

By orchestrating an integrated design approach, you lead project design from programming and predesign through schematic design and design development. Collaborating with practice studio leadership, principals, and project managers, you champion a culture of design excellence that delivers high quality, client-centered solutions on multiple concurrent projects. As a design innovator, you advance holistic, sustainable design thinking for JLG clients.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with Principals, Project Managers, and Project Architects to lead the programming process or evaluation of owner provided program.
• Guide JLG’s Site Analysis Methodology in Predesign
• Distill owner’s needs and site conditions into a clear problem statement, then establish design parti that aligns with clients’ goals and vision for project.
• Guide the integrated design process around client goals to develop a design parti elevated by JLG’s Framework for Design Excellence and aligned with industry standards.
• Utilize JLG’s Framework for Design Excellence and sustainability software for critical analysis of design solutions.
• Integrate consultants and systems relevant to project. Consider, challenge, and clarify design priorities that ensure design intent is fully documented and buildable.
• Generate, lead, and participate in client presentations.
• Accountable to follow JLG’s Internal Design Review process for Quality Assurance and Quality Control at Concept/Schematic Design and Design Development.
• Collaborate on pre & post-occupancy processes to develop and engage team in lessons learned to grow our leadership in project type and elevate our quality of execution.
• Develop design stories and presentation materials to participate in new project pursuits including client presentations, proposal responses, and interviews.
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with project teams and clients.
• Participate in the interviews/proposal process to secure new business.
• Provide support, mentoring, and guidance for Project Associates and emerging designers
• Ability to travel

Requirements

Required:

• Professional, accredited degree in Architecture and current architectural registration/licensure;
• 7-10+ years of experience with exceptional design portfolio and a proven track record of leading large-scale designs, teams, and clients
• High level of conceptual creativity, innovative thinking, and analytical problem-solving skills with proven ability to lead a high-quality integrated design approach
• Strong communicator with excellent presentation skills; able to communicate complex design concepts to clients.
• Proven ability to develop collaborative relationships across the firm, consultants, constructors, and clients.
• Strong understanding of all phases of design, including ability to lead programming process
• Strong working knowledge of building codes and building science
• Strong understanding of material and constructions costs that inform design decisions/direction
• Exceptional analog & digital imaging skillset including fluency with Revit, Enscape, Bluebeam, Adobe Creative Suite, Miro, and MS Office Suite.
• Knowledge of the total project process including fees, budget, schedule, and team management strategies
• Excellent time management and organization skills with the ability to lead multiple concurrent large-scale projects

Preferred:

• Familiarity and understanding of the AIA Framework for Design Excellence
• Experience with the implementation of sustainable design certification programs
• Accredited Sustainable Design professional.
• Familiarity with Sefaira, Climate Studio, Sketchup, Rhino, and Grasshopper
• Proven ability to deliver professionally juried award-winning design work
