POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Safety Manager, this position provides administrative and clerical support to the Safety and Environmental Departments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

Because Eastern Shipbuilding is continually growing to meet the needs of our customers, your duties and responsibilities may be different than described.

  • Regular attendance at work and the ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
  • Maintain all records associated with waste disposal, waste inspections, scrap metal records, and regulatory affairs.
  • Able to assist Department manager with training programs.
  • Able to update Environmental Program based on regulatory changes
  • Complete RCRA/DOT/Hazwoper Training annually.
  • Arrange for compliance testing for Beryllium
  • Arrange all offsite compliance training for all environmental employees

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

REQUIREMENTS

Education/ Experience: Graduation from high school or GED equivalent with specialized course work in general office practices such as typing, filing, and bookkeeping, plus one or more years of experience in an administrative/ clerical position. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Prior experience supporting a Safety/First-Aid department desired. Bi-lingual English/ Spanish is a plus.

Skills: Intermediate-level Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook Express.  Exceptional Organizational skills with the ability to read and interpret documents such as general business periodicals, professional documents, or governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors and employees. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines, and smartphones. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
