Job Description:

The Clinical Nutrition Supervisor actively oversees the operations and provision of clinical nutrition care within a department. The Clinical Nutrition Supervisor works closely with the Clinical Nutrition Manager to implement system standards, define department goals and workflows, and support frontline caregiver competency. This role is expected to work in the standard to provide direct patient care.

Posting Details

  • Shift: 2 clinical shifts providing direct patient care, other shifts are operationally focused within the department. Supervisor is expected to provide clinical or operational support on the weekends and holidays as needed. Clinical Nutrition Supervisor will have direct reports who work in clinical areas including but not limited to the NICU and the Adult inpatient setting. Role works onsite, in person at Intermountain Medical Center 
  • Full Time 40 hrs/weekly

Essential Functions

  • This position reports to a Clinical Nutrition Manager and has accountability for registered dietitian and clinical diet tech caregivers within a clinical department.
  • The roll-up span of control for this supervisor role is typically 5+ caregivers within a department and requires the ability to effectively manage both clinical nutrition practice and day-to-day operations in addition to providing direct patient care.
  • Supports and enforces department policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and professional licensure. 
  • Serves as an expert clinical resource for registered dietitians, clinical diet tech, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Problem solves and addresses complaints or concerns promptly and escalates appropriately. 
  • Responsible for performance, competency, training, and development of clinical expertise within direct reports.
  • Assists clinical nutrition manager in decisions related to department staffing. 
  • Assists clinical nutrition manager in setting department goals, KPIs, and action plans.

Qualifications

  • Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
  • State licensure or certification in accordance with the primary state of practice requirement for Registered Dietitians.  If the primary state of practice requires licensure or certification, this must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
  • Current expertise in clinical practice and medical nutrition therapy.
  • Demonstrated highly effective verbal, written, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Possess excellent customer service skills and ability to foster and promote the delivery of excellent patient and consumer service with proven ability to work effectively with physicians, administration, and clinical staff.
  • 2 years of clinical nutrition experience in a healthcare setting, preferred.
  • Experience leading and/or mentoring peers or direct reports, preferred.
  • Continuous improvement experience or certification, preferred.
  • Specialty certification(s) related to clinical nutrition practice, preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Regular attendance to perform work remotely and on-site during regularly scheduled business hours is required.
  • Ongoing need for employees to see and read information, documents, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs.
  • Frequent interactions with providers, colleagues, customers, patients/clients, and visitors require employees to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use for typing, accessing needed information, etc.
  • May have the same physical requirements as those of clinical or patient care jobs when the leader takes clinical shifts.
