Description of Work

Are you a college student (or recent graduates) seeking an internship in public relations? If so, continue reading to learn more about this exciting opportunity.
This posting is for a part time intern Fall 2026) with the Public Affairs Office at the North Carolina National Guard (NCNG), which is a division of the North Carolina Department of Public Safety (NCDPS). This internship is expected to start on August 24, 2026, and last through October 23, 2026. The work schedule is part time, up to 30 hours per week Monday-Thursday (8am-5pm). The rate of pay is $15.00 per hour.
Responsibilities will include:
• Developing and writing stories highlighting NC NG soldiers and airmen
• Gathering good news stories across the North Carolina National Guard (NCNG) in both visual and written form
• Producing products to be used on NCNG social media sites
• Working closely with social media managers to improve data mining process

The student Intern will have the opportunity to:
• Work closely with NCNG Public Affairs Office (PAO) administrative assistance to improve daily task tracker
• Work with the NCNG Visual Information Office on gathering and recording product to include photos and video for short- and long-range video production products
• Work with the media manager to improve media relations between NCNG and different NC media outlets
• Work with the Community Relations Officer to assist with two public relations events.
About the North Carolina National Guard Public Affairs Office
The NCNC PAO provides timely and accurate information about the NCNG Citizen-Solider and Airmen to members of the public, the media, other agency partners and stakeholders, and state and national leaders. The NCNG PAO provides a single point of contact for public affairs issues and media relations matters and coordinates internal and external communication plans, manages community relations/outreach events, requests for support during public events, supports photo, video, and graphic needs for the organization and when available, provides protocol support.
This internship is expected to start on August 24, 2026, and continue through October 23, 2026. The work schedule is part-time (up to 30 hours per week) Monday-Thursday. The rate of pay is $15.00 per hour. We value our employees and are committed to providing flexibility in work schedules. This position qualifies for teleworking on a part-time basis as part of the State Telework Program.
