Responsibilities

Program Overview

 

Youth Villages’ Residential Treatment programs serve children with emotional and behavioral problems.  Our residential campuses provide the setting for an intensive treatment program that combines the unique balance of structure and freedom. This enables children and their families to identify, understand and cope with their individual needs and develop the skills necessary to succeed in less restrictive settings.  We have three different types of facilities—Intensive Residential Centers, Open Campuses, and Group Homes. Located in Tennessee and Georgia, all of these facilities utilize the Re-Education of Emotionally Disturbed Children therapy model (Re-Ed). 

 

Position Overview

 

  • Provide individual therapy that encompasses the ability to comfort and listen as needed
  • Provides family therapy through evaluations that focus on interpretations of family rules and roles, parent figures and ability to recognize and confront problematic family interventions
  • Coordinates with Counselor appropriate therapeutic action on an individual basis regarding visits home, parental visits with the youth as needed
  • Formulates assessments and treatment conceptualization that reflects Youth Villages' philosophies
  • Provide quality case management and customer relationships that reflect Youth Villages Mission and values
  • Provides support in development and evaluation of daily milieu to meet treatment needs of youth and group
  • Communicates all critical events to the Supervisor and program staff
  • Interviews youth to obtain information concerning psychiatric history or other pertinent information to develop youth psycho-social and in-take documentation
  • Maintains required records in a timely fashion for assigned youth and family units
  • Provides group therapy to develop skills needed in community and family living.
  • Develops and maintains treatment planning for youth in coordination with Intercept Counselor and the family's treatment plan
  • Determines and coordinates need for additional psychological, psychiatric, and medical assessments.
  • In cases where there is no Intercept Counselor, the Residential Counselor will perform the following duties: Serves as the primary contact with state custodial designees
  • Engages and prepares family to accept responsibility for return of child to home environment
  • Develops and maintains family treatment plan to facilitate youth returning home in coordination with youth treatment plan
  • Coordinates emergency placements as required
  • Consults with the treatment team, Intercept Counselor, and/or appropriate staff members to plan the placement, transfers, and discharge of the youth. Ensures that all parties involved in discharge plans are notified and prepared for discharge placement (i.e.youth, family members, treatment team staff)
  • Coordinates weekend visits of youth including meeting therapeutic leave of absence goals from out of home placements
  • Establishes joint accountability with Intercept Counselor for outcomes, length of stay, and cost of treatment
  • Participates in the maintenance of good staff communications between all departments and levels of staff
  • Coordinates for transportation for therapeutic leave of absence. Arranges transportation for therapeutic leave of absence from out of home placements
 

Salary

$60000 - $63000 / year based on education and clinical license

Requirements

 

A Master's degree in a social services discipline is required Must be willing to pursue licensure with supervision provided One year of counseling experience is required Experience in a residential setting is preferredExperience working with at-risk youth is a preferredExperience working with youth is requiredExcellent written, verbal, and oral skillsAbility to manage multiple priorities simultaneouslyBasic computer knowledgeAbility to maintain a flexible schedule
