Job Title: Athletics Program Coordinator
Department: Youth Programs
Reports to: SCSL Manager
FLSA Status: Non-exempt. 40 hours per Week
SUMMARY
Under the direction of the SCSL Manager and Senior Director of Youth Programs, the Athletics Program Coordinator supports the planning, promotion, and implementation of high-quality athletic programs, sports league activities, and recreational classes for APCH members. This position plays a key role in coordinating logistics, engaging youth in enriching physical activity, supporting volunteers and interns, and ensuring program excellence and safety across all athletics-related spaces.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in the design, organization, and facilitation of athletics classes and league programming
- Teach recreational enrichment classes and outdoor physical activities during after-school hours and league seasons
- Collaborate with the SCSL Manager to increase member engagement through clear class descriptions, updated promotional materials, and inclusive programming
- Support curriculum development that is inclusive, developmentally appropriate, and trauma-informed
- Manage and maintain program and sports league inventory; ensure safety and proper functioning of all equipment
- Coordinate scheduling, promotion, and implementation of athletic events, practices, and games
- Monitor field/playground maintenance and daily cleanup routines; identify and report safety concerns promptly
- Assist with South Central Sports League logistics, including academic tracking, evaluations, orientation planning, and game-day coordination
- Track and report on attendance, evaluations, equipment, and other program data via internal systems
- Support with daily member supervision and ensure all safety protocols are followed by staff (e.g., safety vests, member visibility, age-appropriate sports)
- Recruit, train, and mentor youth athletes with a focus on skill development, teamwork, and leadership
- Identify and support talented athletes with access to scholarships, club teams, or advanced training opportunities
- Assist with onboarding and training of volunteers and interns; model professionalism and positive youth development principles
- Support staff and uphold APCH’s culture of safety, care, and accountability
- Submit reports and paperwork in a timely and organized fashion (e.g., rosters, evaluations, incident forms)
- Foster positive relationships with families, colleagues, and external partners
- Perform other tasks as assigned
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
- Model and promote sportsmanship, positive behavior, and youth leadership
- Observe and support field supervision duties, including adherence to APCH’s safety and conduct policies
- Contribute to cross-departmental efforts to deliver holistic youth development experiences
- Embrace a growth mindset and participate in training or team development activities
- Support agency-wide events, celebrations, and initiatives as needed
